I am currently working on a 700 SXR Red Head with Bender pipes and jetting. The owner is saying that at top end, it starts to die out. He is running a stock intake. Is there anyone with a like-for-like senario that can fill me in on suitable intake mods or if they are requied?

what does he mean by die out? You shouldn't need to do anything to the airbox. What RPMs is he running at top end? Could be a clutch issue too... What jets are you using? When my mains were too big my redhed was not getting to top RPM.

Have you looked at the "top hat" filter/screen under the needle and seat of each carb?

No Idea what the "Top Hat " Filter is, but I'll take a look under the needle and seat.

Thanks!

"Die Out" as in wants to go, but can't. The motor is acting like it's gasping for either air or fuel. He's thinking that the fuel pump isn't keeping up, but his plugs are black?????

Reed Spacers or cage mod?? There is an Air Box mod too, have you looked in the TY.com Tech pages?

There is a screen/filter on the inlet side of the seat that once the seat is removed you'll see the domed screen. If the plugs are black it sounds rich so perhaps the screens aren't a concern, but should be looked at and are often overlooked.

Could deffinantly be a clutching issue too. Maybe the secondary spring is pooched..

Or maybe the spring is just too weak, the belt is slipping, the clutch is over shifting and causing your bogging. What does this sled have in it for clutch peices?

What is your jetting and needle position? Bender set these up very rich on their spec sheet. Also, what is done to it for clutching? There is an intake mod, but it is not necessary to get it running right.

I am also running a sxr with pipes and when i followed the recommended jetting, it is waaaay to fat. My pipes were simmons cpr not benders, but when it was colder, it kept rpm up better. I'd agree with it being either jetting or clutching. Start with your jetting and making sure you plugs look good. Once you have your jetting dialed in, then see where you are and determine if the clutching requires addressing.
