commpression question

i have got the piece out of the crank and on cylinder all put back together i have no commpression i dont even have commpression in the cylinder that had it befor i took it apart and i never touched that cylinder could thi be because one cylinder is still all apart could the commpression be going out the exhaust or something like that any help would be appriciated
 
i guess i have to ask? how are you checking compression without a cyl on. if you're pulling over the engine without a cyl on you've got a rod and piston (if the piston is still on) slapping around the cases. i would not recommend doing this. just take your time, follow the manual instructions and get it all back together before you worry about the compression. but from reading your other threads My opinion is this engine should be completely torn down and checked out. jmo but i think it'd be worth it in this case
 
did you wash the crankshaft down with gas and blow everything out.A small bit of debris left in there will detonate the motor eventually.Put the heads back on and torque it all..fill with coolant and bleed once running.Pull oil pump wide open on initial start for a few moments to make sure it is getting oil..you will know by the smoke it makes.
 
you will find compression once it is all back together.Another important thing prior to putting cylinders on..how is the cross hatch marks,Take a green scrub pad and scrub all the cylinders inside with 2 stroke oil .Once that is done wash the cylinders in hot soapy water and dry.You should see cross hatches on the inside cylinder walls..then they are good.You have to do this to insure the new rings will seal..My SRX rebuild thread has it all in there.

before you slide the cleaned cylinder down over the pistons..I hope you checked ring end gaps,forget the spec..but is important otherwise the rings may not seat well and need a little gap.At least they cannot be tight inside the cylinder.manual speaks it all..good investment,,

thank you bluemonster you have been very helpfull through this whole process i am ordered a new jug today i am waiting on it i will do everything you told me i just slid the old jug overtop of the last piston so i could pull it over and check compression in the cylinder that is done but i have zero
 
think about it..how is compression made..The pistons are pushing up the cylinders and with the heads on there is a area now were the pistons are pushing(drawing air) and mixing with fuel to compress and ignite from the spark plugs.You are compressing air/fuel and ready for ignition.Right now what are your pistons doing..just going up and down with no resistance..compression is taken with a gauge thru you spark plug hole once everything is back together.Don't worry..you'll get compression..but meantime installing and preping everything according to spec is very important towards making that compression.You may probably need a new base gasket also..a good suggestion.I wouldn't re-use my old base gasket.O-ring gaskets between cyl/heads may be re-used if in great shape.BUT probably good idea to replace them also or you may end up with coolant leaking into cylinder or outside cylinder.I had a pinched o-ring and coolant was slowly creeping out the cylinder,I had to replace them then.A lot of info in my rebuild thread I posted on here.
 
ok now i just have to wait for my new cylinder to get here where can i get the new gaskets for the bottom i replaced the o ring ones but cant find the others
 
when i get my jug before i start when i tipped it over to get the piece out of the crank all the fluid ran out what kind of fluid is that it looked like anti freeze but i am not sure how to fill it back up
 
you need the manual...fill the coolant bottle..run motor..leave cap off and coolant should circulate to remove air trapped.If this doesn't work..then remove blrrd screw ubder seat,,until all the exchangers get warm..

X2. i'd be looking for the manual before you continue. i have the 00-02 in pdf i can email you but not the 98-99. I THINK for what you're doing the 00-02 will be the same as far as engine assembly. but someone please correct me if i'm wrong here. pm me your email if you want it.

I've got a printed copy of the 98 - 99. I had bought the CD and printed it so I could use it in the garage. Ended up using an entire black ink cartridge for my printer:( Not sure where the disk ended up. I don't have the sled anymore so don't need it. Was planning to dump it at the swap meet this fall. I will cost a bit to ship, but if you want it make me an offer and we can probably work something out.
