ill have my new cylinder tommorow to pu the motor back together but i noticed that it needs slides how to i change these what is the easiest way ive never done this before
Easiest way is out the back through a track window, but most pull the suspension out and give everything a good checking over while it's on the bench. Bushings, w-arm, etc... all require periodic maintenance/repair/replacement so that's a good time to do it all.

If you're not going to pull the skid, which is recommended as noted above, loosen up the rear axle. Remove the screw at the front of the rail holding the slide on. To get the slide to break free/start moving out, I use a hammer and some sort of hard plastic punch or even a screw driver will work (not recommended unless you're really careful) and start tapping at the lead end of the slide until a portion of it is sticking out the rear track window. Then grab onto it with some pliers and yank it out the rear. If you're lucky, and have reverse, get the slide sticking out the window a few inches, raise the rear of the sled, put it in reverse, and blip the throttle a bit. It'll peel the slide right off. When you're putting your new ones on, clean up your rails as best you can, and apply some sort of graphite type grease to the slide. It will make it easier getting them on and off next time. Then re-tighten the rear axle and re-tension your track. Factory recommended is 7/8" with 22lbs of weight (pull) on it, but most will tell you this is WAY too tight. Make note of what kind of sag you have to begin with and put it back to where it is now.

You really need to get a service manual.

when i change hyfax, with the sled on its side, i use a flatblade screwdriver to get between the rail and the slide. then peel the slide down through the window. lastly turn the driver(s) backward with a prybar and it peels them right off. 10-15 minutes for both sides.

ask for the proper service manual at the thread below. it will save you waiting for responses here

MR SLED: would it be doable to perhaps create a sticky thread, or in the tech section, where users could upload the service manuals for all things yamaha for those that dont have it?

I could add a service manual upload area... as long as we can get a few to start... you have a few?

Not to start another fire but if this is done might want to keep it in the VIP section. A very wise member here once reminded me of how important it is to earn somthing like a manual around here. Keeps the one hitters honest. Just an opinion! Ever since then this is somthing i have followed and passed on to others as it was to me. Chris
I have the 00 srx 700 I could add

I like that idea but maybe guys should start a thread and we should see how many we will get before we add a forum... test the waters.

Please excuse my ignorance; but if the slide is coming out of a track window in the rear, how does one turn the track (either by hand or with the throttle)?
...and if this can be achieved, wouldn't you turn the track in the forward direction to spit the slide out the rear rather than revearse?
What am I missing?

I could be wrong but i think he is saying that with the slide sticking out the window and bliping the throttle in reverse it will peel it off the rail like a banana peel. Kinda like when the skid is off and instead of sliding them off with a hammer and chisel i just pry the end up and pull the slide off like a banana peel.

Try it now. I raised the size limitations.

Ah, I see. So the track acts like the slide portion of a zipper and pulls the hyfax over the rail instead of off the end. Kinda cool.
Thanks Super.
