Gas or Charcoal?

Whats you personal preference when it comes to grilling. For me its charcoal all the way..
 
If you have the time, and are not hungry when you begin, then yes, charcoal.

x2. for a get-together bbq that'll go all day, charcoal. for a steak or burger for dinner after working all day, gas.

my friend and I are actually building 2 charcoal grills right now out of 20 inch stainless pipe. his will be a trailer style pit. mine will be a countertop set-in. maybe i'll do a thread in the working log on them.

Now in my opinion that would be a summer build worth following..
 
Infared works very well, they are gas, but heat elements for burners. like infared heaters if you know what they are. nice orange glow.

So like an upside down broiler? Or in Chef lingo a salamander?

I just bought one last week and have only grilled twice but so far I like it. It allows for the addition of soaked wood chips and with no direct flame contact, flair ups are a thing of the past.

I prefer the taste of charcoal grilling but with the required for-thought I didn't grill as much. This infared grill seems to be the next best thing... so far.

I've got a charcoal grill with adjustable grill surface if anyone wants it. It's going to the street Wednesday night otherwise.
 
charcoal, and if there is time, the smoker. after grilling on charcoal for so long i really dont care for a gas grill ever again. i agree that it is much faster to grill a few burgers for a quick bite, but to me, lighting the grill, waiting for the coals to heat, drinking a beer while your flippin burgers and burnin dogs, its all part of the experience :)
 
charcoal for sure. but if time allows smoker. just smoked a pork shoulder butt this weekend and it was awsome. but smoking for 11 hours is not for everyone.
 
Charcoal only! call me a snob, but a Weber grill only also. Learning (trying to learn...) how to cook on the Weber has been fantastic. Using Rubs before the cooking. Different tempitures. Direct vs. Indirect heat.

Ribs and beer-can chicken are my current "specialties!
