88-90 phazer track swapout

I am a total newbie to wrenching on sleds so forgive the questions (I did do a search but can't find such simple things ;).

I recently picked up an 88 Phazer and a 90 Phazer II, both with less than 2000 miles on them from a good friend who had them since new (well taken care of). I want to upgrade the tracks on them from the tiny bumps to something that will help them go a little more. Reading on here it looks like a 1" paddle is the best combination of ease to do and go without having to mess to much. I have already picked up one lightly used 121x15x1 and will be shopping for a second along with an extension for the 88 when I get some more funds. I have read through the PDF maintenance manual I found posted somewhere and think I can figure out how to do the track swap, but is there a simple writeup with photos maybe even a video on swapping the track?

dont know of any how-to's directly related to the phazer, but theres some good info in the tech section i believe that will relate.

extensions may be difficult to find for the 88, i prefer to relocate the entire skid. its almost a free modification depending on your ability and resources available.

loads of good info and plenty of people will guide you through the process.

first step is skid removal followed by removing the driveshaft.

where are you in Wa?

welcome to the site!! glad to see you did a search before asking, but at the same time there is no such thing a stupid question here. so dont feel you CANT ask. because 9 times out of 10 someone on here has gone through whatever issue/mod you would be going through. good luck with your build and keep us posted!!
 
WPS has an extension that will work. My XL-V has the same skid as the Phazer , with a WPS 136" extension on it.

skid removal looks fairly straight forward, still reading on the driveshaft. I seem to have no problem taking things apart it's the putting them back together again, just like when I was a kid.

I did find extensions on wps that look like they should work, just going from 116 to 121.

I live outside Seattle, the sleds all live at my cabin outside Leavenworth although the 2 old Phazers are currently at home for the transplant.
 
a digital camera can be your freind. used one on my xt350 re-build and it was worth it as the manuals do nat have all the pics you need either.

i do know that a 1-1/4" ripsaw bolts right into a phazer II chassis as my brother has one that we put a ripsaw into.
 
camera, bag, tag, sharpie and notes.

leavenworth is a nice place, always wanted to ride there. too bad your that far away, i would offer help. im on the other side of the state.

pipe needs removed to access the chaincase for removal, secondary clutch needs to come off to access the bearing cover to get the drive axle out

as mentioned, lots of help available if you confuse yourself or forget something.

Also do a youtube search. I saw a couple different videos on there that weren't bad. They were pretty short but enough for you to get the idea. Gil
 
There Should Be No Need For A Tunnel Extension On The 88 Phazer I Put A 121 Track And Suspension In A 84 A Few Years Back It Was A Direct Bolt In For The Most Part And Looks Factory I Will Post Some Pics But I Need To Take Some Of It First Good Thing It Is Out Of Storage Right Now
 
Bringing this topic back up because my brother and I are swapping a 121 into his '88 Phazer. I have done some extensive reading and it appears the best way is to relocate the brackets back 2.5". Can anyone verify this? Yes we have an aircraft riveter and will get some good rivets to bring it all together. Two other questions:

- Will a 1 1/4" Ripsaw work with the stock drivers?

- How would the sled react to a Poo Xtra-10 skid....I have one laying around. I was thinking this may be the ticket to a bit more travel for the poor little sled. I see one other guy on here did this.
