It's time to step into the new millennium and get a smartphone. Anybody have feedback on them?

I'm in Minneapolis and looking at either Verizon or Sprint. I currently have Verizon and don't really have any complaints other than I don't get a signal at my desk downtown.

If I go with Verizon, I think I may wait until October and get the new HTC Vigor. If I go with Sprint, the Evo 3D looks like a nice phone.

Anybody have problems with smartphone screens not working in the cold weather?
 
My only suggestion is that you put some kind of case on it. The screens on smart phones seem to break easily when dropped.. other than that, dont get a "beginner" phone. You will hate it. If you are going to dive into the realm of smart phones, go all out.
 
Yeah the Droid smart phone is quite nice from what I hear, I love the advertisement for it as well in that computer voice..... Drooooid!
 
I'll add in my vote for the Verizon Wireless Droid X2. I've had it for a couple of months now and it's great. They just released an update to take care of a couple of minor issues like it freezing while taking HD video or the charge light staying on when not charging. The phone is incredibly fast with the dual core processor, the pictures and videos are incredible and the amazing selection of apps with all these Android phones is great too. The batteries only good for a 14 hour day if your online a lot but when not using too much 3G, GPS or Wi-fi stuff, it will last 3-4 days. I just charge it every night.
 
Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like a couple of you like your Motorola phones. They are releasing the new Bionic in September so I'll have to do a little research. the main reason to get a newer phone over some of the others is that we have 4G LTE service in Minneapolis which is supposed to be 10x faster than 3G. It is also supposed to be REALLY battery hungry. Currently Verizon only has 3 4G phones and none of them are dual core. I guess If I'm going to spend the money, I might as well go all out.

Good to hear that the screens work in cold weather for snowmobiling and ice fishing.
 
I have had the Thunderbolt for a while now.

Very nice phone except the battery life is not as long as I would like. Yes, all of the features including 4G LTE and the larger screen come at the cost of power consumption. There is a larger battery available, but I don't like the bulge it adds.

The Bionic is suppossed to be a very nice phone if it ever gets here. Also the 2nd gen Samsung 4G phone is suppossed to be great (I forget the name).

As with any computerized device, you can overload the processing power. I ususaly just restart the phone to clear it up. I haven't taken the time to go through and cleanup uneeded services.

4G LTE is very nice - I am in IT and can work from my laptop connected via 4G LTE - VPN as well as I can work in the office for everything except large (GB, TB) file transfers.
