I ordered the sway bar bushings and cover plates and rivets.Wanted to remove the plates the other day and now notice the damn plastic of the bellypan cross right over the bottom rivet and the whole corner of the cover plate. How the hell do I get that rivet out now??I am not going to remove all the plastic bellypan to to replace these. There is also some kind of seal there between the plastic and plates, probably so water doesn't get by.Do I have to maybe drill a large hole thru the plastic to expose that rivet and then try to wiggle plates off???Man why did they have to have the plastic go over them plates..bad design or what..Any solutions here guys or hints????Thank-you again..

the entire sled was built around those plates, really.

if you pop the forward most rivet from the bottom of the belly pan, you can just wedge enough room to get a chisel after that lower rear rivet. the rest are exposed.

i never put any back in, but all that i have done were sway bar removals and adding a plug at the bar holes so the lack of that rivet was not significant.

that should help on the getting it out part.

Have fun with that one, eh! No really! I put new bushings in my sx, 2 years ago, I left the rivet that was under the plastic and bent the metal back just enough to change the bushings, then bent it back and re-riveted the 3 that I removed. That was before I had it all apart last year, had I waited a year it would have been much easier.

ok..well I will look into it again and see what is easier..since I will have the parts here ,would like to try something.Them parts wern't really an expensive deal anyways.Yamaha should have had a solid pin in that location and a notch in the plate that would sled onto it..engineering..what engineering...what were they thinking???

thanks again guys..as usual very informative and helpful. That is why this site
''ROCKS'' ;)!
Man it is cold out now..looks like snow clouds out there.Leaves are dropping from the trees..Geese are flying...maybe early Winter, still waiting onall the parts I ordered... :o| another 2 weeks at least before I get them..

well I changed the bushings on the SRX and seem to think it was a waste of time. The new bushings still have play or slop to them.Yamaha did not make them exact to fit around the arm.So don't think I will waste my time now doing them on the SRX ..maybe next time around..
