2000 prostock Srx motor question.

Has anybody tried running a viper crank in Srx cases. I am thinking about trying it in my prostock motor but was curious. I think there might be something to benefit with the pork chop style crank. What do you guys think.
 
I think i read something about the srx non porkchop cranks making more torque, Which should be better for drags. The porkchop cranks i think would quicker reving which good for ditch banging i guess. I could be wrong this is stuff i have read on this site at one time or another. Actually i have tried this kind of,i used the complete bottom end from a viper and put my srx topend on it and guys i was beating with the srx were now beating me in the drags we raced. Just my experience.

well, the viper crank is lighter then the srx crank is, however, what you gain or should I say lose in weight loss you also lose in crankcase pumping efficency due to the circle crank packing the case better. So its a even trade off.

To answer your question its already been done and there isnt enough power differance either way to make a swap, just use what you have .
 
in '92 dyno'd my mod vmx4 @ dynotech. sent the crank/rods/pistons to falicon & had it balanced & in the process they removed 2# total mass. re-dyno'd & made the same h.p. & torque. no diff.

yes, a lot smoother. jim's comment was "you could set a drink on the head & it wouldn't ripple". probably a manhatten?

I installed a new indexed Viper crank in my 2002 SRX before last season. I have never dyno'd this set up but I never noticed any "seat of the pants" performance increase or decrease on the trails. I really notice the reduction in crankshaft weight when pulling it over....it does not spin as much as it did wiith the SRX crank.

bored carbs can create fuel curve problems. have seen this on jim's dyno. put on non bored carbs close to same size as bored carbs & problem went away.

So true! Had an old set of 40.5's at Jim's that caused us a bunch of grief. It made good power, but the curve was real wacky. Went back to 38's and it smoothed it out nicely.

probably the proportion of the diameter of the entrance of the carb, versus the diameter of the venturi. things change jetting wise once carbs are bored.

mbarryracing may know... he works closely w/ justin @ full power performance. justin is one of the best in the business.
