The bearing and collar are all one piece, just slide it out the spedo hole. Might take a little nudging and pb blaster but it will come.

remove the 3 nuts on the bearing holder, drill out the 2 rivets, slide back holder out.I used a 3 arm puller to get bearing off.slid of nice like..especially if you put a little heat to the pearing and pull quickly.Oh yeah..the 2 set screws will have to be loosened also..usually a little heat at them will help to loosen them since they should be red loctited.

If you remove the bearing retainer(3 nuts) (mine didn't have any rivets that I had to drill out) and speedo sensor and open your chaincase and remove the bolt and bottom gears. The axle should slide over to the clutch side enough to get a small 2 or 3 jaw puller in there. Note: when you remove the set screws from the bearing DONT LOSE THEM!!! The screws they sell from Yamaha are the wrong thread for the bearing collar they sell. Mine were missing so I ordered new screws too and the screws are 6mm by 1.0 thread but the threads in the collar are finer. I even went to the Mill Supply that has everything and they couldn't match up set screws that thread. We ended up re tapping the collar to 6mm by 1.0 so the screws would work and that was a b**ch that collar is hard as a rock. Gil
There Are Two Set Screws With Torx Heads Item 8 In The Pic, They Must Be Loosend And It Will Slide Right Off.

GIl7247, I ended up doing the same thing with mine, I can't believe they don't sell the right threaded one from Yamaha!!

Sleddineinar, to say the least I was p.o.'ed. It did explain why mine weren't there when I disassembled it though. The last guy must have had the same problem. His solution was just not to put them in, apparently, LOL. Gil
I already have it off the driveaxle, but I already have it figured out what I am going to do as far as replacing it.
I got mine set in place and tightened the set screws from underneath.

Did all u guys buy aftermarket bearing that did not come with set screws ?? I see some on ebay that look like they don't come with the screws, just empty holes. I will stick with oem replacements as i'm sure they are a better bearing from the start. They are available through Babbitts Online for like 20 bucke, same price as the ones on ebay. Also went to the local Detroit Ball bearing sty, 25 bucks there, & not in stock.Just make sure the new ones have RUBBER seals, as i have seen some lately with metal seals & they look cheap and like they will let moisture in, not a good thing for the speedo bearing especially.

go with NTN bearings and you can't go wrong.I know bearing prices here are starting to go up in price..what hasn't gone up in price in this crazy world. The NTN are made in Japan..good quality.

Ottawa, That's where I bought my bearing (Babbitts) and they don't come with the screws. It was in an OEM box clearly marked "Yamaha" so were the screws. I even double checked the part number. But like I said in previous posts OEM doesn't make anything, they assemble parts that come from suppliers just like the car companies. The supplier for either the screws or the bearing must have changed the thread specs and it went right by Yamaha. Gil

mine from the dealer didn't come with screws either. they actually asked if I also needed the set screws when I bought them, so they must be used to people coming back for them. but the set crews my dealer sold me worked. I didn't have the wrong size/pitch problem, but they were pricey for a set screw.

I ordered the screws at the same time as my dealer never has squat in stock. Ya they were pricey. The online price was $2.97 ea. Of course that dealer charges that for everyting that doesn't have a price, nut, bolt, washer, everything is $2.97 what a rip!! LOL
