Honestly Blue, I think you can do better. I'm seen cleaner ones go for less. I had one near perfect that I sold for $2500. I have a mint 97 (even more rare) that I'm selling for $3900. I've seen several very clean 95's over the years selling in the mid $2k's.

But, in your area that could very well be a deal. Good luck if you buy it.

Here's a link to my 97. The 95 beside it was flawless and I think it sold for $2200. You could eat off both engines :)

This is very good advice, that sled is very expensive even more so if its a short track.
These are strong sleds, why was it rebuilt?

l recently picked up a 2.5k km 1996 136'' MM one owner for $1900 spotless bar a strut tower ding it was a good deal and it took me a season and a half of looking before the right one came up. Not as desirable as Zacs 1997 which in 136'' track is the holy grail of vmax4s..................................however i think the 1996 long track maybe rarer than the 1997 short track ;)

There was as an example a 1997 long track that was for sale on the east coast in nice shape for $2000 last season, admittedly it lasted about 5 minutes. it shows there deals out there

I have a 1994 Vmax-4 750. I bought it new in Jan. 94 and used it for saddlebag touring trips through Quebec. The sled was always a blast to ride in all conditions. I put 11000 miles on it and retired it in 1999. I have it on a shelf in my garage. It is as clean everywhere on the sled as the day I got it. I am so glad I kept it instead of trading it in. I replaced the stock cable actuated brake with a custom hydraulic brake. I removed the stock exhaust can and installed a pair of Bender stingers. Recently I picked up an exhaust system from an Vmax4 800. Once it is ceramic coated it will be installed. The 800 exhaust system makes a bit more powr than the 750 exhaust. They are still a great sled.

I've been on the lookout for a 1995 or 1996 Vmax 800 to add to the collection, one day I'll find a nice one at a good price.

all sleds out here are at least double the asking price compared to the USA.I imagine rebuilding an engine is gonna be around $2000 parts and labor out here to..I suppose they wanted to rebuild that sled to original and be a collectors item.He told me he put $1000's more into it then he was asking and he will not sell it if he can't get the $3500.If my situation was different and I had money just laying around..I woiud buy it fot the heck of it...but funds are slowly going down and have to watch how I can carry on the next few years...
I have 2 great sleds now and if the price of gas keeps climbing,I will just sled on certain days because it does cost a lot to run these machines..Price at the pumps went up again today and it never ends.....

l live in BC CANADA, its still an expensive sled period.

Just because you spend 'X' on a machine does not mean its even worth the sum total of the work, that is also a fact.

For example i have a 1993 vmax4 long track that i brought for $1600 3k km i have spent a FORTUNE on turning it into a mountain sled ( i use the term loosely) with welded cranks, dial a jets, boyesens, bender quads, 800cc cdi upgrade, hydraulic brake upgrade, viper bars, riser, custom made cables, remade (higher)seat, custom made sno eliminators, Uni skis, X10 skid with fox shocks, extrovert drivers, engine work......................i could go on and on, you get the picture. l have spent several times the orgional purchase price on the sled as its my baby HOWEVER, its not worth more than $2500 and thats a little dreamy when you think the Hontri sled was sold for less than $2K

You wanted to know peoples thoughts, you got it.

If you are concerned with mileage then a 4 isn't a good option.

If you want to carve the Red River like never before then the 4 is your animal.

Set up to run on ice in a river environment where cornering and loooooooong legs are required, the 4 is as good as it gets. Or better.
