If your SRX is in tip top shape and clutched right I think you'll have a chance

they are pretty strong runners in the right hands those 900's ;)!

Also if you make a long race you'll have an even better chance at beating him

Had a 2003 zr 900 with a one incj stock track and 96 studs down the midle This sled was a rocket on iced lakes with just a bit of snow for lube or hard packed lakes. my 2004 zr 900 diamond drive version was a bit fast on take off but had a inch and a quarter track with studs. On long hard packed runs i dont think that their is much that could touch the 2003 zr 900.
 
my 780 machz could walk all over my brother-in-laws 03 zr 900 everytime we ran them. I didn't catch the srx bug till both those sleds were gone so can't say for sure how my srx's would truely fair against those particular ones but it'd be a good race
 
either way, it's a bigger & newer sled. it would be great if u got him though. Is his tuned in pretty good ?? do what u can to get an edge. it's harder to run somebody down & play catch up, so make sure you aren't sleeping at the line & get a good start. My buds doo is faster than my srx, but i get him at the light & he cant run me down in 600 ft. do what u can to leave him at the start.
 
The 03 ZR900 should beat you pretty easy. I bought a 02 SRX last year I actually believed all the hype about them. Mine seemed to run pretty good it was a 02 with low miles. My machine had 2001 jetting stock clutches then I added a clutch kit. Everything else was bone stock. I ran a bunch of sleds last year and I got my *** handed to me quite a bit. F7s xp 800s, Mach Z 800s and 1000s. Yes they do go good for a 700 I could beat the xc 700s Mach 1 700s 670s and I could sometimes beat the rev 800s. It really depended on snow. If there was any snow on the lake I would get smoked. They run the best with little to no snow.

And I keep hearing about how they had the best et ever at the shootoutand how they weigh less than the other 800 triples. That is just not true. Yes the 2001 SRX ran a 12.003 at 100.66 with a weight of 614 lbs. The other triples that year weighed in at, Mach Z 608lbs and XCR 609 lbs. The only one heavier was the ZRT at 623 lbs. That 12.003 has been beaten time and time again. Then when you run them dealer prep the SRX gets slower and the other sled get faster.

I'm sure there are alot of faster sleds out there. However, the SRX can still hand alot of sleds there as@#$. Not bad for a 10 plus yr. old sled.

I agree.....SRX's are BAD FAST! Maybe this dude just can't ride!!! I have a 98 and mine has some much pull it's rediculous!

Back to the original question: Drag racing is all about traction and getting off the line. The other guy can have a 400 hp monster and if he can't hook it up you will smoke him. Seen it happen many times.
Get your sled to get off the line good, keep the front end down and not spin the track. You will be surprised what happens. Once you get a good jump off the line it's hard for any other sled to run you down. Your best bet is to run on hard pack.
It is a waste of time to race in deeper snow because it becomes about the track, lug height and length.
One other thing...you can't have a good drag sled that is a good trail sled. It's either one or the other.
