if so what are you guys using for throttle extensions???? powermadd has some but they dont work well with yamahas

I put a powermadd pivot adapter with a 2in block which is 4 inches of rise on my viper. A 2in block is about as high as you can go with all stock cables. Some members on here have 3in blocks but have to reroute the cables over the air box. Throttle extensions, powermadd doesnt sell them anymore. Only for four strokes now. I bought throttle and oil cables for an 03 mtn viper from Yamaha. They are not extensions, they are just a whole new cable that is longer. Plus you will have to get a longer brake line too. powermadd does sell them. All i can say is stick with yamaha throttle and oil cables if you have to get some, they are a bit more then aftermarket ones but i found out Aftermarket = junk.

I put a 6" riser block with a pivot adaptor, and put a stainless braided brake line and put the powermadd extensions on.. they are truly a pain in the *** and i had to mod them to get em to work but its all good now...the risers were deff worth it.

1993Vmax4,

I'm telling you, don't get those SPI cables. They are nothing but JUNK!!!!!!!! I made the mistake of getting them two years ago because they were not that much. They make my throttle ten times stiffer then stock and the first ride I had them on the throttle cable where it screws on to the carb rack broke. I was not happy at all with them.

I'm adding a 9" RSI pivot riser. I'm using the RSI cables and brake line. I'm also reinforcing my steering stem.

I just added a 9" to my MM, pondered reinforcing my stem. How're you going to go about it?

Having a hell of a time getting the new brake line bled.... Kind of a weird problem

That's fantastic, I just had those installed when I got the carbs cleaned.

Did the throttle cable itself break and leave you stranded?

This may not apply to you, i just thought i would throw it out there.

l found that when i did a hydraulic brake upgrade on a sled the new mounting of the caliper ment the bleed nipple was in the wrong place (not at a high point on the caliper) l ended up bleeding with the caliper off , what a PITA. lf your sleds sitting at a weird angle that could be causing your problem.

Thanks for the heads up Ag,
..........................they are already on there way! Lol
Never mind, i will pay close attention to them when they arrive.
l was turned onto them by a couple of guys who have them and have had no problems so i guess i will wait and see.
l might have to get some custom cables made anyway, with the extensions i have at the moment the cables are to close to the mountain bar, otherwise i just know one day im going to go for the bar in a hurry and grab a handfull of throttle cable...........................

The throttle cable didnt break, it was the housing that i have circled that broke. I wasn't happy with them so i ended up spending 60 bucks for yamaha cables that were for a 03 mtn viper. They are so much nicer.
;)!

Just get some 03 mtn viper cables. They work great and smooth as can be. They of course cost a bit more then the SPI cables.

A piece of pipe or even solid round stock that can be fit down the center of the steering stem. The peice should be long enought to go past the top mount of the steering stem. Don't force it with a hammer or anything, the bottom mount is on the back side for the front heat exchanger and might break if you try to hammer it in, then you'll be replacing your heat exchanger too. Put a groove lenghtwise on the pipe to match the seam on the inside of the stem, make it so that you can tap it in. If you do this while in the sled than just weld the top of the pipe and the stem with a good solid weld all the way around. If you take the steering stem out, put some holes around the stem to plug weld to the pipe, but make sure it's good weld around the entire hole, not just a little blob.

Last year I reinforced one and didn't put the pipe past the top mount and I hit something in the snow and broke it off right where the pipe ended, 2 things besides not being long enough... 1. the guy welding only did little blobs where the holes were and 2. I drove the pipe in w/o making that groove, I though because I was doing it while it was out I could just drive it in, but I think all that pounding weakened the shaft too much. Anyways, done right it should last a long time...
