Is this a good snow belt to live around in Michigan? I am considering getting out and coming home at the end of my contract. I see its very close to Gaylord area and should have a good Yammi dealer around and possibly a trail system which I sure.

Good jobs appear to be good for veterans. Too much time away from sledding and tired of it all. I have been wanting to come home lately.
 
Very good snow on most years with the LES doing most of the work, the trails zig-zag all over northern lower MI.

I have a home for sale in lakes of the north near mancelona, this area is pretty much the bulls-eye for snow.
 
Right on Rules! This is just about everybody's favorite Lower Peninsula riding area along with Gaylord. Lots of good eats on the main trails and Mancelona is always fun for the snow drags.

Not sure about the jobs as its tough around here now, but this is a great area for snow and riding, I live a little to the east at Grayling.The snowbelt in Kalkaska and Antrim counties especially get more snow than some areas in the up.In fact most years when going to the up to ride we have way more snow around here than the straights area, but I still like going up there to see something different!I have lived in this area most of my life so if you have any other questions about the area don't hesitate to ask!
 
I have a place a little south of there in Cadillac and they always seem to have good snow. A lot of times I will be going up north to the cabin and not seeing much snow all the way up, but when I turn off the highway it seems that the snowbanks are always higher than what I saw coming up. They have a very good trail system too. If you ever want someone to show you around give me a shout. Dave
 
Thanks everybody, I have a few options to look into for work. Would like to buy a nice family dwelling out of town close to the trails at least 4 BDR
 
Its a buyers market for houses thats for sure! I know of lots of homes that have sold very cheap and interest rates are very low.You should have no problem finding something and if your a handyman you can really save, I've some homes in Grayling that needed work, but were very salvageable go for 10-20,000 bucks!
 
Beautiful area Spring Summer Fall and WINTER of course. When not on the sleds and it is warm, the water is beautiful and clearer and cleaner than probably any that you have seen. I live in Traverse City and one of the hats I wear is in Real Estate sales. Shoot me a message if there is anything more I can get you for info.
 
Congress just approved a 15 year retirement in an ongoing effort to reduce spending and total size of the force. I will be eligible in 6 months.

I am looking into Nothrop Grumman . I have met a few employees and it sounds like an exciting civilian career

job market sucks in Mich...... been living here for a long time though,,,,, lifelong,,, Michigander....
 
I am a locator (miss dig here in MI) with USIC. Traverse usually has the least amount of snow compared to any where around. Snow picks up about half way to kalkaska. I graduated kalkaska high and theres really nothing going on in that town. I currently live in mancelona (whopping 15 miles north) isnt really much of anything going on in northern mi. I work 70+ hrs a week all summer and try to sled 70+ all winter....Hasnt panned out this year!
 
I know what your saying about the snow, many times Grayling where I live has way more than Traverse and of course more over your way! Not a whole lot going on here either other than Camp Grayling which has been expanding in recent years which is a good thing!
 
The locator proffesion gets me all over the state. I am routinelly running around from higgins lake to mackinaw from I-75 west, occasionally over to greenbush,alpena,onaway,rogers city and cheboygan. Gaylord usually seems to have as much or snow than any where else.
 
I know I have some family there, on the wifes side. other than that, I am of no help, sorry! good luck and thanks for serving!
