I am in the middle of putting a 6 inch riser on my 99 sx. I know guys that have put 3" vipers with stock cables about if you turn the handlebars all the way the idle picks up...lol. Wouldn't recommend it. I would say 2" safely without extending cables. Thats keeping it simple.

2" w/o any problems. After that you will want to purchase Mountain Viper cables(brake, throttle) Very easy to swap out. Have to take airbox off to do oil line.

A 2in block is about as high as you can go with all stock cables. Some members on here have 3in blocks but have to reroute the cables over the air box. I bought throttle and oil cables for an 03 mtn viper that i put on my viper. I put 4in. of rise on my viper and all i can say is stick with yamaha throttle and oil cables if you go bigger then 2in. They are a bit more then aftermarket ones but i found out Aftermarket = junk. Plus you need a longer brake cable to.
Although doing this is not to bad of a job. The throttle cable and brake line are easy to do. Its the oil cable that sucks to do. Have to take the air box, carbs, and one of the motor mounts have to come off to get to the oil pump.

I run a 1" block and a 2" pivot riser for 3" total on my 04 viper s with no problems. I do run the bars straight up and down, the controls are moved in about 1/2 inch for the handguard mounts and when i added the 1" block i did have to take the break out of the gold retaining ring on the steering stem. I have plenty of room and no turning issues. My daughters viper has a 2" block im going to swap and find out to have 4" and see what i come up with. Pretty sure it wont work but what the heck. You can run a 3" pivot riser no problems. I would even guess that rox 3 1/2 pivot riser would be fine.

Im running a 2 in pivot on my red viper. My blue one is a pivot adapter with a 6 inch riser with a flat bar and stock controls. I will however be making plug and play extensions for my electrics though...

With a flat type of bar, like the ones in the photo, you can run a 7 in adjustable riser. I prefer this because you can run the bars much further forward to pull you closer to the center of gravity on the machine. With the addition of a higher seat, it's like riding an apex lol.

snoprokidf6, is that whole setup rsi? I'd like to do that on my Viper. could you share all the pieces for that set-up. looks real nice

The set up is a 7/8'' flat bar style, from RSI, 6 in riser and my pivot tube was made from my old handle bars because i'm cheap lol, much more comfortable as the bars are straighter and further forward, my pro x seat goes hand in hand with this bar set up.
You'll have room for a 7 in riser.

My set up is like adding a 2.5 in riser block to the standard bar set up. So a 7 in would be roughly 3.5 inches taller i think. You'll like the ergonomics of the straight bars versus the stock bars, HOOKS ARE A MUST!! lolpipe+viper=bada** said:that is what i want right there! thats 7" rsi riser with pivot tube and straight bar? is that any higher than stock?y

Very good idea. What did you do for heated grips, those still look like oem connections? If ya can include all of that in your write up also. I may go this route also when you get the write up done. I looked up the parts and they don't look to expensive either. Just didn't know what you did for grips and warmers.

Grips and warmers also came from RSI. The grips were around 15 bucks and the warmers were around 40 i think? I just clipped the wires from the stock grips and matched up the wires and spliced them together.

instead of making a new thread i'll just up this one.
I just installed this RSi setup on my viper and without riding it, just dreaming in my garage. I have found that full lock turns are going to have me slamming into the windshield with the brake lever.
i did a mild search on different windshields but does anyone have some links on windshields or other options. I can move the bars back but that negates what i've done with the set up and the riding position i'm trying to achieve

If running stock winshield you will need to go with low profile height one now. I just cut all mine down on my own with a pair of tin snips to the low profile height, then painted the inside with flat black and wala!!! New windshield for a couple bucks.

do you happen to have a picture i could take a gander at?
if not thanks for the response as i'll probably try to tackle the project
do you re use the rubber/plastic that outlines the windshield?
