Ski Question- HELP!
One of my skis is completely shot, and instead of gambling on used skis from Ebay, I want to order a new set of C&A Trail X skis, and figured I'd ask if there was a better less expensive Yamaha or other brand option.
1. What other Yamaha skis fit a Viper?
2. Are there any newer skis that perform better than stock Viper skis, If so are there additional parts needed to install them?
3. Where's the cheapest place to buy them?
Thanks!

Red, what did you pay for them new? Everything I've found is $150+ for 2 new ones, for only $70-80 bucks more I can get the C&A's seems like a no brainer.
Thx
Any ski out there will fit your Viper spindles -- the key is the correct mounting hardware. Any Yamaha ski made after your Viper was built will fit your viper just fine using your existing hardware, except you'll need the spacers also to get Yamaha Mountain skis to mount up. Yamaha uses spacers with mountain skis so the rider can adjust your ski width for sidehilling, etc.
But if you decide to go after market (C&A, Slydog, USI, Curves, to name a few) ask for Yamaha trailing arm suspension mounting hardware when you buy your skis. If you buy skis used, you can always buy the correct mount up kit for your sled from any seller of that brand skis.
Skis are one of those things that are a very personal choice. Every ski has it's pros and cons and purchasing skis is a compromise. There are lots of choices out there. But expect to pay $400+ for a new set of skis with mounting kit and new carbides.
What type of riding do you do? What conditions? Any off trail? How aggressive? Tell us a little about how you ride and we can help you to start thinking about what the right ski is for your riding.
The C&A Trail X skis are a trail ski for only moderately aggressive riders. They have a lower price point and it's C&A's entry level ski to get people into their brand at a lower cost, then upgrade to the C&A Pro Series skis. Don't expect the Trail X to compete with Tucker Hibbert or anything, but it will be better than any trail ski Yamaha has ever put on a sled (maybe Yamaha's new Tuner ski will change that -- we'll see)....
So let us know how YOU ride and what you want from a ski...

Thx Super Sled.
I ended up buying a new set of C&A Trail X skis with new Woody's Trail Blazer IV carbides for $299 shipped.
This will be my first season back on a sled in years, (I scored an '03 viper ER with 3700 miles for $1200 eariler this summer and a '98 Fromula Z 670 for my son. it's got just over 1000 original miles, I picked it up for $1000.) I plan on doing a lot of aggressive trail riding, but I'm new to NE Ohio so I'm not completely sure what other type of riding is available in my area.
