I recently bought a 95 vmax 600 and when i start the sled it is super smokey. Is the to much oil goin to the cylinders or is this normal?

maybe the pump is shot and running full open at all times.Take a look at where the alignment mark is at when at idle and then at full throttle firstly.

Smoke is good for 2 strokes. Also if you are starting it up in this warmer weather it is running very rich. If it was me I would wait till you get to ride it this winter and see how much oil you are using per gallon of gas. That is really the only way to tell if your mixture is correct.

I had a 96 vmax 600le. It smoked alot when I started also. Only smoked alot until it started to warm up and if I tried to move it before it warmed up it was usually a MASSIVE cloud. The guy I got it from had ben running polaris oil in it. It seemed to smoke less as I transitioned to yamalube. This sled was mostly for freinds to ride and early late season for me to ride so I never really worried to much about it. Sold it to a buddy and he is still riding it with no problems. Probably getting more oil than necesary. Would rather smoke and swap plugs more often than less/no smoke and have to swap pistons, jugs, cranks!

my stepson(Bluemonster2) has a 95 vmax600.It was smokin good to,adjusted the pump as per specs but it was still usung more oil then normal. That twin would still haol azz and gave my SXR600 a run for its money. It had great acceleration off the start also.I was really impessed with it.Mind you the dial a jet it had in it probably helped with that to.

Could be from summer storage. If you just recently bought it, the smoke could be from the previous owner fogging the motor for summer storage.

All the above are good points and possible. I would wait until you can ride before being too concerned. Make sure you carry a few spare plugs in case it is running rich.

You only worry when a 2 stroke QUITS smoking!

Agree with all the above though, probably summer storage. Also, if the sled has been started numerous times and only run for a short time (minute or less), they tend to build up oil and gas, and will smoke A LOT until its all cleaned out. This is really common on a sled you just bought, as he probably showed it a couple times, starting each time for a little bit.

My 96 xt smoke's like crazy when warming up too, after riding around a bit it clear's up quite a bit.7500 trouble free mile's very reliable.

Pogo era 600's were real smokers. Bender had a fix out for them at one point but you had to send the oil pump in to have it done. Nature of this beast. Keep an eye on that oil bottle during the season, this are calibrated in the 20:1 range and they like oil......so much so that we used to make them run at the back of the group to keep the rest of us from having our eyes water up....LOL!

But it smells soo good when they smoke :).
I agree with most the oil is probably building up from warm weather and short runs.
You can run it for a while at higher RPM just don't overheat and get her good warm and see if she gets a little better

My XT tends to smoke more at startup might be from the twins or something but they both do it some and clear up when they warm up doesn't usually take too long
