I have found a 96ish vmax4 800. I dont know much about these sleds, other than the obvious 4 cylinder. My neighbor has one that doesnt run worth a crap (very poor maintance) The other sled I have found has a M-10 under it with usi skis. Asking price is 1500, its ben for sale all summer though. How would this sled compare to the 2000 srx, sxr or the couple vmax 600s I have owned? I would imagine the vmax4 would be considerly heavier, is that off set by the 800 factor?

I've seen that same sled listed all summer. I think its too much money. Suspension won't be as good as what you have ridden. Probably would work if all you are going to do is rip down 131 blowing away cars.

Vmax4's are a unique and special sled. The sound of that 4 cylinder two-stroke is pretty sweet!
That being said, they are heavy and definitely a handful on the average trail. The SXR that I sold last year and spent most of my time riding over the last 8 years, was quicker out of the hole, handled better and had a better ride than my 96 V4.
But it would take a lot for me to sell the V4. I primarily ride it on a local trail that is a converted railroad grade. Pretty basic riding, lots of gas available and not a bunch of turns.
The price is so low on many of these that they are very good buys for guys that want the big Max's power for low $$....

lm bias cos i have 2 Vmax4s. However i also have a TCat amongst other things and have ridden many other sleds. Most have good and bad points but none are as memorable for big grin factor as a well sorted quad piped vmax4 going flat out across a lake.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE WORST SNOWMOBILE EVER MADE FOR TRAIL RIDING. GET IT STUCK YOU WILL NEED BACK SURGERY. WITH THAT SAID, THE FASTEST SLED YAMAHA EVER BUILT. MOTOR CAN MAKE POWER THATS MIND BOGGLING. I STILL 18 YEARS LATER GRASS DRAG A 1995 VMAX 800. THE LONGEST SHOT ON THE BOARD KEEPS RUNNING LIKE A CLOCK. GET ONE SET-UP RIGHT, THE SRX WON,T HAVE A CHANCE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I like mine on the trails. I have to work a little harder than when riding the new stuff but that's OK with me. The rear doesn't take the bumpy stuff as well but the front is as good as a trailing arm sled in my opinion. They will carve corners as well as anything out ther if not better. Heavy?? Yea but there are heavier sled out there and a 4 is only 20 or 30lbs more than an SRX so ????????????????
The cool factor and sound are second to none. We run the river on them and they are almost untouchable in that relm. Long legs the ability to take corners fast and flat. Vmax-4's live for it.
I have a stock 92 750 with Bender twins. Stock SRX's don't pass me. 800 Vmax-4's do.

I have to agree with you opsled, I love my vmax-4 in the trails. Kicks the crap outta my srx I had. I bought an SRX last year, sold an SRX this year. Nothing I have ridden compares to my vmax-4.
Again, correct on the weight thing too Opsled, the diference in weight between a '98 SRX and a 93 vmax-4 is 15 lbs. I had to look it up, I had both of these sleds and I kept hearing how dreadfully heavy a vmax-4 was. It didnt seem all that heavy to me, definitely a tougher machine. SRX seemed like it just might fall apart if you grabbed it in the wrong place when you got it stuck.
My only 2 beefs, well 3 with the vmax-4 are the rear suspension, the gas mileage, and why the helll didnt they make a vmax-4 1000?
Rear suspension, no big deal, they make new suspensions everyday.
gas mileage, ignore it and just think about the smiles per gallon.
vmax-4 1000, well everyone can dream!

Yea Baby!!!!!

"Smiles per gallon" ======= Priceless!!

Someone over at V-4.com said it,,,
Vmax-4, "The most efficient way to waste fossil fuel on snow" (or something like that).
The Hemi Cuda of snowmobiles.
Not for the meek or timid. Not for those who want to follow or be like everyone else.
For Men,, That want to go fast and be bad assed whilst they're doin it!!!! Suck it up and pull the trigger.

Exactly,
I talked to Gordy Muetz (Yamaha race dept) back in the mid 90's and asked him why they did not offer the Vmax-4 in a 1000cc quad piped edition.
He basically declined to answer the question, but I let him know that if they did I knew where they could sell at least one.
Needless to say the 1992 Vmax-4 was the last "new" sled I have purchased.
23,000 plus miles and still my sled of choice.

they did not need to build 1000cc when the 800 can beat 1000cc sleds like the 700 srx they did not need the 800 srx as the 700 beat up on 800s
