Hi,

I've got a SXR700 year 2001 and the handwarmers and thumbwarmer is dead.
After some measurements and checking the scheme i've came to the following conclusions.

1. One of the grips is broken.
2. Thumbwarmer resistance is 41 Ohms (is this normal) ?
3. Yellow / red cable from the CDI unit to the grips give me only 4,8 volts.
4. Green / white to the thumb gives me 12 volts, but when i plug in the warmer and measure again, it gives nothing.
5. The two knobs for heat adjustment doesnt adjust anything, but if i measure the resistance in them directly they seem to work.

Is it a common problem that the CDI unit "breaks down" on only some out / inputs?

And next question, if i buy new aftermarket warmers, can i steal power from the headlight for instance? Without breaking anything else?

Hope i've explained somehow correct since english is not my native language.

Great job on the english! You have better grammar than most people posting. Go to the top of the forum page. Click on the FAQ sticky. Info is right there. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I've tried reading through the threads there about warmer issues. And i've seen some users with similar problems (only 4-5 volts out of the CDI up to the warmers).
But it seems changing the CDI wont allways fix the problem either. Im confused.

Do the CDI need a certain resistance to give 12 volts, or should it give 12 volts all the time, even with grips unplugged?

Is there anyone out here that have had the exact same problem (low voltage on yellow / red cable) that could answer me how they fixed it?

Best Regards
Erik
