Scott..just installed the Simmons Ski's.Man you old stock Ski's only have 3 inches of carbide(factory) and the carbides are all flat.No wander you had no steering on ice and hard pack.The Simmons have the stock carbides they give with the Ski's.They have 6 inch carbide x two on each Ski now.So now you have 12 inches total carbide per Ski and they are the 90 degree carbide.They are brand new.I used 60 degree ones last year until I tore off most of the carbides crossing that rock dam on the La Salle River last season.... :o| .So this will make a HUGE difference in control now..

BUT..now I took my 2 straight edges and laid them along track parallel to the Ski's.WOW!!Your alignment is wacked out.Probably why you had to correct yourself a lot when coming out of corners.Believe it or not but you now have negative toe out.It is toed in 3/4 inch..can you believe that.You were losing control and speed probably..I can try to adjust the tie rod ends a little..not sure if I can correct it just thru the outside tie rods adjustment.Since you sealed your triple pipes last night..I can't remove them. I may not be able to get under the pipes to turn tie rod ends there and get a better overall .

well I was lucky today.Was able to align them Simmons up perfectly.Simmons recommends very little toe out..actually 0 toe out,to keep the ski's parallel. So your Ski's are aligned using the straight edges against the track and measured at the Ski's to get proper alignment.Man does it ever look better now sitting on the sled and looking at the ski's.Took me a couple of hours Scotty..so you owe me a lunch or two or gas will do..lol.Your gonna bite them corners now.You have to see the old ski carbides..what a joke...

dont mean to hijack but had a question along these lines.

i bent the bottom tie rod on the clutch side last season when i caught a hidden stump, and now the ski on that side is towed in a good inch..... would replacing that tie rod fix the issue or do you think there may be more issues to cause such a tow in?

Tip you shouldnt have to replace it. Have you taken it off yet and pounded it out straight? I did that to elizabeths viper then just used the adjustment to bring everything back in line. Plenty of room for adjustment.

Good to know, I just aligned my simmons and toed them out 1/4" or so maybe I'll readjust.Mine were out of wack also and toed in quite a bit. Now I'm really anxious to try it with things aligned properly, where do you measure from with the simmons?
 
since there is no bolts in the middle of the ski to measure to..I just measured side to side of ski.This toe in is basically last owner caused.Being this sled is 12 years years old and the carbides and ski's are original..could use a little alignment for once...lol

yeah I have removed them on my SXR and used a hammer and straightened them out.Maybe also check to see if the control arm didn't spin on the ski shaft/spindle end.Check to see if the alignment marks still line up and look at that control arm to see if it was twisted or bent any.
 
yes they do Scott.Hey looking at the forecast..supposed to be 4 cm tomorrow and next week another 5 cm and temps start dropping to -14 and more flurries/snow..it is almost ready to ride.Maybe next weekend a little riding around the block..

Ok, thanks Blue I think I'll try them at zero toe also if thats what simmons recommends.
 
Blues better than green. There is some blue in the XTC logo. I'm sure the price was right too! I also had my Simmons set with a little toe out. Time to readjust. Good info

At first I wasnt sure but now that they are on there they dont look too bad I like the way those skis felt on bm1s machine. ;)!
