From standard oil to synthetic oil

Hello.

I bought an older sled with the 2 stroke tank 1/4 full of the oil the previous owner used. I want to use synthetic but know the two don't mix.

I'm worried if I drain the tank an air bubble will get into the oil pump.

Can I pump out most of the old oil in the tank and then introduce semi to the standard oil and then when near empty add the full synthetic.
 
Yes, just run it down low and then add your desired new oil, its not a big deal and should mix just fine.I've done this many times over the years with zero issues.
 
I would suck ut the tank with a suction gun or kerosene pump and then fill up using a a synthetic that is compatible. Like klotz snowmobile!!

WAY too much work there... If you want to be cautious, run it down low like swede said. If you are like me and just want to throw caution to the wind, just top it off with your new oil of choice. I have YET to ever have a problem mixing. I've heard the conventional wisdom was that many years ago you could end up with sludgy chunks of oil if you mixed. I have yet to actually see proof, other than 'my brother-in-law's cousins best friend did this' type stories...
 
When I switched over, I too just ran it way down and added the synthetic and have no problems since. On my buddies sled we sucked it out with a hand pump almost to the bottom and added syn. instead of draining, his tank was close to full.Soc
