I hear alot of chatter about the 98's having crank issues.
Was there a recall on these? I heard somwhere yamaha actualy made a crank swap kit for them because they had problems. Any truth to this?
also the manufacture date is 10/98 does that make it a 99?

Yeah, on the 98s that was the SRXs. The SX had a bearing issue in 97, that was fixed by a redesign in 98. So 98 SXs cranks were fine.

Thank's all. This realy puts my mind at ease. I was not looking forward to splitting these cases.
My first yami triple, all my friends told me"never buy a triple, all they do is blow cranks and overheat" I said "but it's not a polaris triple, It's a YAMAHA!" big difference

these 3cycl engine's are made very well I have never seen one or heard of one going bad except when they first came out 1997 sx guys where putting electric start on them so the pto bearing was no wide enough so in 1998 they put a wider bearing in them and you could retro fit the wide bearing into 1997, I have 2 of theses sled's and would not sell them they are great
