I know this as asked a million times but I can never seem to find the answer I am looking for. I am GOING to buy a new clutch this year for my 2001 SRX. The sled is basically stock and I do a mix of 50/50 trail and lake riding. Which complete clutch kit would you recommend?
I would prefer to purchase a complete unit as I am not a sled head yet, I am trying not to get into purchasing these specific weights with this helix and this spring etc. I would prefer if possible to purchase the complete unit as a kit. As of right now I am leaning towards a Bender clutch kit, good call or would you choose something else?
Thanks again for all your help!
Chris

if you want a out of box kit you better off calling tom hartman he will give you a set up that will work for you :2strokes: :letitsnow

All u need is 3 rivets (4.5 gram), 2 springs(www primary, green secondary), 1 Helix(51/43, or 53/43), and you're done. Put the rivets in the hole on bottom of your current stock weights. That's all u need man. And it all can be had from a dealer. Except the 53/43. Hauck or Dalton should work. Its all parts you'll be changing with a "Clutch Kit" so u might as well go with a proven setup.

what he said ;)!

Thanks for the info guys. Mybe I will try this particular set-up instead of a kit since Corey is right I guess, I do need to change the same components regardless if its a kit or not.

I only mentioned I preffered a kit because I did not want this thread to turn into a million different weight, spring and helix combinations which probably all work but I wouldn't know the difference between changing any one of those specific parts.

How do I get hold of this Tom Hartman?

call tom hartman simple job he can talk you through it wont take long simple hes a good guy :letitsnow :2strokes:

I have used bender kits when I had my srx and ended up putting my own combos together. The few of their kits I have seen did well on trail but not so well in other areas, dealt with excessive belt wear also. If u do get pieces there are plenty here willing to help out with figuring out fine tuning if u need it. As long as ur not afraid to turn the wrench there is alot of help here for the info. For the most part its a pretty good atmosphere here. Good luck

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the help.

I spoke with Tom and he was a great guy to deal with.

I am looking for some of these parts mentioned above and I have found the green spring, but not the WWW primary spring? Bender has colored primary springs, does WWW denote the White primary spring?

Does anybody recommend a vendor in which I can purchase all of these parts from?

Thanks again
Chris

WWW would mean a White-White-White primary spring. This would be refering to a Yamaha spring with the White-White-White markings on it. If you have a tall primary cover you want the one with the markings on the same coil, if it's a short primary cover you want the one with the markings on 3 seperate coils. The one attached picture is a W-W-W Yamaha tall primary cover spring. While the other is a Green-Pink-Green Yamaha short primary cover spring. (Notice the marking differences) If you look at your spring you'll be able to tell which you need. (Tall or short)

Thanks SX.

One question though, if my SRX is completely stock, why would I need to check which spring I have. Which of the two springs is the stock 2001 SRX spring?

Thanks again
Chris

Ok So I am going to purchase the following;

3 rivets 4.5 grams, I am still not sure where to purchase these. Dalton has weights on their site but none are at 4.5grams........

Or should I get a set of adjustable heel clickers which allows me to change weight ( I am not sure if that is a correct statement ) and tune the clutch as I go?

1 WWW Primary spring

1 Green Secondary spring

1 51/43 Helix

This is basically the set up on Turk clutch page as well so I am assuming it is a good starting point. I know you can only confirm by testing but the reality is I cant ride where I live so I only get about 10 weekends a year to ride which allows for very little time to wrench and monkey around.

Thanks to everyone who responded and helped out.

I just looked and you do have a Tall cover primary.

For 4.5 gram rivets, Yamaha sells them, it's a 17.2 mm steel. 90261-06033-00

A tall WWW spring is 90501-583L1-00

Green Secondary spring is 90508-556A2-00

51/43 helix is 8FA-17604-00

Those are all Yamaha part numbers listed above. Let us know how it turns out.

everything is good except I wouldnt use the stock yamaha helix, its really only about a 48/42 and its going to over rev on top and slow down the top speed, I would use a aftermarket helix a 50/44 or 51/45, just my opinion.

stock rx 1 helix

wondering if a stock rx1 helix would work with this set up? isn't it a 51/43? should be real easy to find one, lots of people added clutch kits and have these laying around.

My question is, what info did Tom Hartman give you. Did he give you the same set up as Corey? He sells all this stuff.
