What is the best year for the V-Max4? What would a 1996 V-Max4 with 1200 miles be worth?

1995. AND PROBLEY $2000. 3:16 (yammie tony)
I think they made them from 92-97, first 750s and then 800s. That's about all I can tell you about them, and that a Vmax-4 is on my list of sleds to own as well as an SRX.

92 WERE COOL CAUSE THEY WERE FIRST ONES. 93 AND 94 WERE STILL 750,s, HP WAS AROUND 140, PROBLEM WITH 750 VMAX4 WAS VERY VERY SMALL HELIX SELECTION. ALSO CRANK HAD TO BE WELDED FOR ANY MODS FOR HIGH RPM. 1995 THINGS GOT GREAT, 800 cc, 150 hp, NO REV LIMITER, WAY BETTER CLUTCHES, etc. 96 WAS SAME AS 95 EXCEPT COLOR. 97 WAS 11.5 AND RARE. PRETTY MUCH IT 3:16 (yammie tony)

long travel, went from 5in of true travel to almost 8. You got to love advertising.

and different clutch weights, the infamous 8bu-10's
1995. 1996 and 1997 have an awkward cut to the seat which places the rider far too high. The upper idler wheels on the 97 were downgraded to plastic, and they are red, not black. The 97 does have clutching which does not heat the belts as bad as the earlier ones though.

Tony covered it and don't doubt him on 4's. He knows them in and out.
The bottom line is that they are all BAD ASSED sleds when dialed to their potential. If unkept and out of tune they will be slow just like anything else.
There are so many things that are unique to a Vmax-4 when compaired to any other sled and if the sound of a well tuned 4 up on the pipe don't get your blood flowin you have no appreciation for hotrods or you're deaf.
I have a 92 750 that is stock with the exception of Bender twins/silencer and tuning. There arn't many sleds that will go around it out on the river that are in the same state of tune with the exception of the big T-Cats, 800 tripple Doo's and 800-4's.
Yamaha left so much on the table with the Vmax-4 that you can never be sure your sled will beat one. If some schlep with no clue is riding one you may beat him with a 600. Run across a guy like Tony and you will be humbled.
The "cool factor" on a 4 is second to none...............
