what to do to the viper

might be going to the bank today to take a 3000 dollar loan so i can work my viper...What would should i get for it? What triple pipes are best for it? I also saw a long tracked viper when i was out riding yesterday and that looked sweet..how much would it cost to long track a viper? or is the expert x a better set-up....if the loan goes through i need some opinions on what to do w/ it...
 
$3000!? All for upgrades? Wow. I'd say you could do just about anything you want.

Heck, if you plan on dropping all that on your sled, I'd see what it costs to put a new Big Bore engine put into the thing. Or a turbocharger.
 
if you want just engine powere a big bore kit is about 2500 then you need a new track cause of spin , pipes are about 1200-1500, there a good 30 hp boost , i put olhins all the way around mine this year , about 2000 , but wow what a ride ,i also long tracked to 136 and for the first time in three years no track spin , oh ya its sweet , but i cant keep the skis on the ground , but thats not that bad .. 3000 bucks is alot of cash but wont last long if you get into the bigger jobs , you figure 136 extention kit w/track is atleat 1000-1500 bucks , so if you want some grunt and hook up i would look for a set of pipes (maybe used) some clutching , and i 136 kit with a track with some bite would cost about 3000...good luck and HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!!
 
3 G!!!! You got yourself a heck of a start. I'm looking in the Bender Catalog right now....SX Viper Power Package...sheck it out!

- Torque Arm
- Opticool Head Gasket (better coolant flow)
- Rear Heat exchanger

They recommend you get the Head Mod done to equalize compression in all 3 jugs. (125.00) send in the stock head. That leaves you about 1,200 to work on the suspension. Just spoke with Tom Hartman at HartmanInc. He highly recommends the Works shocks with dual rate springs...all 4 for around 900.00 or buy his 136" conversion (everything, rail & tunnel extensions with track) for around 750.00-800.00 I think that's an awesome start and I'm jealous. If your a Yamaha faithful, trade the Viper in for a RX-1 or Warror and spend the money on a turbo then you'll get the most bang for your buck. The viper will be a sled of the past after this year.

I cant speak from first had experience, but the viper motor hasnt been the most reliable motor to mod.

Of course, if your not Yamaha true and true, trade the viper in for bigger displacement....Mach Z, ZR900, Fusion.
 
Interesting suggestion otis700, considering the guy was asking how to spend money on his viper not what new sled to buy...HMMM? Since when has the viper motor been not good to modify, basically your turning it into a SRX, but you just have to pay attention to cooling. Anyone I've heard with problems, didn't take care of their cooling...IE..rear heat exchanger and/or the head mod.
 
I dont want a 4 stroke, i like the 2 stroke and i want to keep the viper as long as i can...but when it comes down to trading it in, i have no clue what i would get, thats why i'm going to put money into my viper...

I was just throwing in my 2-cents. Many times there's no way of knowing how well informed a person is regarding his sled so I'd rather give my feedback and be way off base than not give it all.

I have an srx and spend my share of money on an obsolete sled so Im not one to talk. When it comes to spending 3000 though, hearing all different options aint a bad thing.

Good call, but weigh the options. Do you own the Viper out right? If so think of it this way. Trade it in for less then you want, which you know will happen then take on a new payment on a sled that has no mods. With this 3K loan for, I'm guessing around 80-100 per month you can have a sweet riding 155 horsepower beauty. Or take on a new payment for around 5-7K and knowing snowmobilers, still want to put money into it. Get my point? At the speed Yamaha is updating and refining their sleds, hold on to it for another year or 2 and see what the options are then. Mono Shock on all their sleds, new motors, lighter, faster and they're always working on more centralized mass. Who knows I think we're gonna see some big things over the next couple od years from all manufactures.
 
Save your money, then buy all the uprgrades you want or better yet, invest it. Not the popular choice but you will thank me in the long run. What kind of interest are you going to pay on a $3k loan? I am sure it is pretty high and could be used for a better purpose. Sorry to burst your bubble but it is just my 2-cents.

I agree if you need a loan to do these, then dont do them. You have a great sled, ride it and save your money until you can pay cash for those items!
