1997 600 v max xtc head gaSKET

looking for some info . i have to have a copper head gasket maDE and need to know the compressed thickness . the sled is a 1997 yamaha v max 600 xtc twin help thanks
 
there were scores in block halves , both halves were cut , bolted back together then line bored . that raised the pistons up in the cylinder , and because they are bored out .50 and use the same head gasket for both stock bore and the .50 bore the gasket hangs out in the cylinder and the piston hits gasket . so i need a copper gasket at the compressed thickness of the stock one with a 75.30mm bore in the gasket :o| :whine: .
 
Can you just grind,cut the bore hole bigger,I've done that before on a ATV wasn't pretty but worked should work with the twin gasket,it's a layered gasket so may be tricky but doable imo.

measuring the new one would work and it really wont matter its not compressed because the piston is up in the cylinder more than stock thus raising compression . so if the gasket measurement is a little more it will help to lower compression .thanks ;)!
 
Yes I did, sorry I hav not poste back. I have a used, 3 layer, from a 97 600 twin, measures .031", That has been compressed. I have a new 600 twin gasket on the shelf, for some reason it is a 5 layer gasket, it measures .062", new, not compressed. Hope this helps. PM me if you need any more info.

do both sets of gaskets still have the brass ridvet in them

i now have new wiseco pistons, base and head gaskets . the head gasket is the correct bore ,so thats taken care of, but both halves of block were still cut putting the piston farther up in the cylinder changing the port timing , has any one ever put 2 base gaskets on a 1997 yamaha v max 600 to help port timing ? . would i just use permetex copper spray and then torque to factory specs
 
Sounds like a future headache youre working on. Stacking base gaskets was common on 98-99 srx's to raise port timing. I think each yamaha base gasket is .010" so thats how much u would be raising cylinder. No need for silicon. just stack and torque.
BTW, stacking base gaskets is probably the better way to go in this scenario to try to get back the lower port timing.
By doing the head gasket mod youre talking about, I'm not sure motor would perform all that well.

im not going to do head gasket mod going to leave that alone , but i would like to get port timing close to what it was before block halves were cut . ive had this engine running and it has never given me any problems but i would like to correct the port timing , and figured the dbl base gasket would be the best way to go about it
 
Not sure if this is an option you would like to do or not, But I know you can buy gasket material in different thicknesses. You could get the correct thickness and trace the old gasket out on the new material and use that. Seems to me you can add the amount of material you took off the case halves to the stock base gasket thickness and get material that is as close as possible to that thickness. Just an idea and a cheap one at that.
