venom vs vmax

I'm going to look at a 2002 vmax 600, also found a venom for $1300 more. supposedly both clean about same miles etc.

Other than the hood what's the major difference? I'm looking for the best possable low speed 25-50mph ride on groomed trails meaning stutter bumps

this sled for 115lb 5'4" blond wife

previously i owned a 97XTC 600 twin, great comfortable suspension. Lousy motor

Then switched to 600 tripple SXR Horrific suspension but a great motor, loved the trip 600.

Amazing how much different the ride was between the two with same suspension design. Took new springs and revalving everything to make the SXR feel like it had more than boggie wheels.

Does the Venom ride/handle like the older Vmax or is it like the god awful Viper.

Did they cure over Rev by the time they got to Venom?

In short am I getting anything more for my extra $1,300
 
Which one does she like better? Both are nice sleds. Both are going to have the pro action. 04 venom will have updated shocks I think. both are going to be really smooth.
My Viper is awesome! The harder I push it the better it rides. If you ride it like a granny, yeah the suspension sucks. I have no overrev.
I would leave it up to her. Sounds like A win win.
 
the 600 tripples all over reved ,when stock mine would pull 9100-9200 they should be around 8400 -8500 yes this is a clutching issue and is fixable. I was wondering if the factory had fixed it by the time they got to the Venom. That way I wouldn't have to.

Most people thought the 02-03 Viper rode like a brick the complaints where so bad Yamaha allowed some owners to bring the shocks to the dealer for a free revalve and spring upgrade. Every aftermarket company came out with revalve and spring kits for them.

The Viper was much better by 04 by that time they had changed the valving and springs. If you bought a used 02 or 03 viper the previous owner probably made the upgrades before you bought it.

Ah, yes. It's been 10 years since the Sxr. I went to a roller secondary immediately and didn't have the over rev issues. My viper was an '04.
I would think it's almost impossible to set up a sled to fit everyone straight from the factory considering weight, snow conditions, riding style and so on.
I would choose the Venom, myself. The gauges, grips, wind protection, visibility are just a few of the things I think are better.
