OKAY - i'm usually not this stupid so bear with me.
I cannot even get the bolts out to get the skid out. I take the front rt out and then the left front just spins. Same with the middle. I even tried putting the middle rt back in tight and then tried to loosen the middle left with no luck. I looked underneath and the shaft seems to be spinning??
I'll bring it to the shop, i'm done.

I have jam nuts on all my suspension tunnel mount bolts so i can loosen one side, lock the bolt with the jam nut so the cross shaft won't spin then loosen the otherside...works every time. Been doing this since cross country racing in the I 500 in the 70s.
Works for me!

I got the skid out and added the "beth viper" shims to it to tighten it up but how do you get the upper idler wheels off? The big ones, i don't see any snap rings or anything holding those? The bushing behind those are the only ones i need to add the shims to before i can put it back in.
There are snap rings on the back side for the wheel....Sometimes those top wheels don't want to come off in one piece. I take the snap ring off and knock the wheel off the bearing. Then use a two jaw puller to pull the bearing off the shaft.

How did the bushings look? Were any of them worn?

yep, pretty much all of them. I used Beth Viper's rebuild recommendations and it's all back together. Much tighter than before, control rods still don't act like they do in the proaction tuning video but.....
There is nothing broken that much is for sure; I inspected it pretty good for breaks, cracks, etc and there were none so i'm going to call it good enough and ride it.
That job is a PITA.

By the way... It's Be-the-Viper...

While you have it out - check your spring rates
Also post pics (a bunch of them) - we might see something wrong

I think I have it figured out. Drove down to a local shop because I knew they had a 500 sxr there. Looked at the spings, shocks, etc and noticed that the rear preload on that one was set way different than mine. Came home and checked the specs in the book and the preload is supposed to be set somewhere from 3.16" to 2.37". Mine was set at like 6" so it was just like my wife, wound too tight.(don't tell her i said that)
Backed it off to a little less than 3" and it seems to be working properly now. Wierd though that if would bottom out easily with more preload than with less. Kind of counter intuitive but it fixed it. Sad thing is that I obviously have been driving it like this since new because I have never changed the preload on this shock, unless they can just move on their own over time.
Also, the shocks on the front ski's were set to 2.5" and the are supposed to be 5.39" to 4.61". I like it to sit a little lower in the front so I set it to 4.25", will that be good enough or do i need to go to at least 4.61"?
Thanks
