It'll all be worth it when she rattles back to life! I found my new stator on Ebay for 100 back then. Funny thing was the stator seemed fine, so I just changed out the pickup coil and left the old stator in. that way I have a backup.

Ok, so I took the stator out of the snowmobile finally. I tested it while it was out and the pickup coil resistance is way out of spec somewhere around 140,000 ohms. Now the stator ohms out at 6ohms which is a little out of spec but not a whole lot. So what I am wondering is, does anyone have a goos pickup coil they want to get rid of? I know they arent sold sepeately thats why I am asking here. And it is a 2000 srx also. Thanks

So update, found an aftemarket pickup coil and ordered it. Will post if it solves my problem. Keeping my fingers crossed.

So another update guys, got my aftermarket pickup coil from RM Stator today. I wasn't home so I had my dad do some stuff for me. I had him check the resistance in the after market coil and it was ~180ish ohms which was in spec so I told him to go ahead and put it on with my stock stator. He did and I now have spark!!!! Next step is getting her running. Going to clean the carbs and go through all the regular maintenance. Thanks guys for your help! Glad I figured out the problem it was driving me crazy, my head was starting to hurt.... Thanks again everyone who helped!

hey dev, instead of rerouting wire harness, u could slip on some of that flexible plastic "stuff" that u see on vehicles. has a slit in it length ways. forget the name of it. used to protect wire harnesses. i took some 3/8" vinyl tubing i had and cut some pieces and slit them length ways. slid them on so all of harness under engine is encased. u need to take off header pipe. hope she runs good for ya.

It's called plastic "WIRE LOOM"... I gotta do the same to my 2000 SRX. Headlight flickers like crazy when on low beam and the brake light doesn't work

Well since I have been home, we have the sled now running but only at an idle. We get it to start up and as soon as you hit the throttle it dies. Seems like it is running out of gas to me so we need to take the carbs off and clean them. It also dies out as soon as the headlight and or tail light comes on. Didn't know if this could be a known problem or not. Hopefully we get her running soon. Although we don't have snow up here yet, I feel like pretty soon we will have some so I would like to have her up and running like a top!

got to be grounding out somewhere.run the motor in the dark and search for some arching somewhere ..did that with my SRX and found wires being burned by the Pipes when I re-routed my wiring up to high..... Then search really good in the dark, move wires around and see what happens.Something is grounding out somewhere.

But the sled did sit for a couple of years and I haven't cleaned the carbs yet so regardless, I need to clean them so I will start that and then maybe I will give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

Since your going to have the carbs off and airbox out to clean them, you might as well repair or check the wiring harness under the engine, because if its not worn thru it will be soon.
Bend over/back all the little black clamps under front of engine releasing the harness, tie a peice of 3-4 foot string onto harness up at hood hinge and unplug connectors. Go over by recoil and unplug the stator wires from harness, pull harness back up and out and inspect the wires, you likely have some rubbed thru causing the engine to shut off when the headlight and load control relay come on a couple seconds after start up.
After you repair the wires, tape each individually and then tape all. Place harness in convolute wire loom and use the string to pull the harness back thru, bend over clamps and plug back in at hood hinge.

Well I already have the wire harness pulled out. Planned on re-routing it so that I don't ever have this problem. The wire harness is still out and we are trying to do some tests on it to make sure it is going to run. Right now we dont have the exhaust on it either. I just went out and started her up and it reved up a little and I just kept reving it up a little and seemed like it was running fine. Lights came on, both head light and tail light. So I don't believe that it is a grounding issue. But as soon as I dropped the r's it died right out. Now I had my hood up so I don't know at what rpm's it died out at but still I believe I need to clean the carbs regardless. I don't know if maybe because there is no back pressure from the exauhst? That is just a pure geuss but like I said I need to get the carbs off and clean them before I really do anything else. Thanks

Clean the carbs for sure, the pilot jets are plugged! ...and do NOT run it without the exhaust!!!

I definatley don't plan to run it without the exauhst but is it that bad just to check it? Because if it is, I will put them back on. Just wondering why it's so bad to run with no exauhst. I went out and actually put my hood down. Now when I start it with the choke it bring me right up into the higher rpm's. But when it drop below 2500 it dies right out. Thanks and carbs are coming off!

Just ordered an OEM Stator from cycledesignonline.com for $161.36 plus $30 shipping brand new. Hope this solves my problems like it did for Philsxviper. Wish me luck guys! Cant wait to get it to see if it fixes my problem, if and when it does, RM Stator will be getting an earfull from me.

mrviper700 said:the problem with checking just the resistance is the temp outside will change the readings. its much better to check the voltage output from the wires while pulling it over, it should show you varying voltage as you can only pull it over so fast. the pick up coil likes to go bad alot on these. I also would look thru the hole on the case top and see if the flywheel is rusted, rusted magnets wont give off a good signal to the pick up coil and then you have no spark.
That's it
I had x3 burned magnets,...two were rusted.
Kept "fouling" plugs. Jetting was spot on, oil pump was in spec.

Well I finally got my OEM stator yesterday. Threw it in and the sled runs like a top. I am glad I finally got it fixed, was afraid I had bought a lemon. Real happy with the sled so far, dont really have enough so for trail riding yet but can't wait. Thanks everyone for the input, it all led me to finally getting it fixed.
