starting sleds after sitting

I would bank on a bad needle and seat causing the sled to need excessive pulls to unflood it. Seen it a couple times on the redheads, just like you are describing. Just my .02 cents.

That can be narrowed down by holding the throttle wide open and counting the number of times it takes to start and compare that to what it normally takes.

I've heard others complain about SRX starting. Vmax-4 too on occasion. Dono. Maybe SRX's are special. Alway 3 pulls at most on any I've owned. Even when real cold. After it's warm the 4 will start with 10" of rope. Likes the throttle held open just a tad (small tad) but when cold, no throttle, full choke, 3 pulls at most. It's a Yamaha. SRX should be too. To me somthing ain't right. If it's "nature of the beast"?? I don't want one.

SRX motors are power houses..they need a little more to start..that's all.But sure can't beat the 600 starting in less then a pull even after sitting nrearly 4 weeks, and it has more miles on the carbs then the SRX...I am not to worried, just wandering way...

if I change the fuel pump..then is there some bleeding to be done with the oil line..really don't want to cause an issue now with oil mixture and such

Maybe you should install a primer bulb... No expert on the SRX, but in my humble opinion that's too many pulls... maybe you should look into it further. I know you do a lot of maintenance on your stuff, it just doesn't seem right that it should take that many pulls to start after sitting a couple weeks...

30 pulls are enough to fill empty carb bowls enough to immerse the jets in fuel as long as your pump is working. I am also convinced that your bowls are going dry. I doubt the fuel is evaporating, but rather it is going somewhere. Next time they sit for this long, pull the bowls to see how much fuel is in them.

I apply a very little air pressure to my fuel tank which fills the bowls for first startup every year. The tank vent line works for this, just be careful if you try this.

I imagine a primer bulb would be installed on the line between tank and the pump...I also install a new gas filter in the tank this Fall also,so nothing plugging up there.Kinda wish these sleds had electric start...

This year I switched my srx fuel pump with the one from my 99 sx. Last year the srx was a bear to start, 10 pulls in the morning when cold minimum and the sx usually took 3 max. I haven't run the srx yet but the sx has been and it was very difficult to start. The 97 xt with 700 engine and dry carb bowls took 7 pulls coming out of storage, the sx with srx pump... lost count and had to dump gas down the cylinders and it didn't even keep running!

ok..just wandering. But noticed the new fuel pump is the same as the old one..it has that hose on top going across side to side. The SX pumps don't have that. Why is there a difference.Yet parts # is the same except for the first 3 letters..8CH or 8DN..the rest of the numbers are the same.
