Changing piston rings and a new head/base gasket is a 2 hour job with simple hand tools and a torque wrench. The rings will be about $65 for all three.
The engine can stay in the sled and it's a good time to clean the carbon off the top of the pistons.

Hard to recommend new rings when we don't know what the compression is in each cylinder. If its 130/0/130, it could be a piston, etc........
Post the compression's and we'll be able to recommend a fix. If it is just a little low, yes, 2 - 6 hour job, depending on your experience.

depends on your numbers ...could be a ring stuck in the piston ...did you put a few drops of oil in each cylinder befor doing the compression test ? selling it that way you will take a hit ..if you do please be honest to the buyer and tell him about it ...i just dont like it when guys sell off there problem and hide it from the buyer ....honestly i would freshin up the top end and have a hell of a sled for many years to come

X-2 The sled I have now, I brought the gauge set with me and checked the sled on the spot before purchase. I drove 3 hrs to buy it. If I came home with a dud that would have been the end. I told the seller straight up.. this is how it is.

yep - you could just have a blown head or base gasket as well. Drain the coolant and pull the head off and take a look. If you don't have any gouges, etc in the cylinder wall then pull it the rest of the way apart and put new top end gaskets and rings and ride it.
