a guy i worked with died yesterday. he fell into a primary jaw style crusher. its a jaw that slightly lobes and kind of moves like a connecting rod would. it has a 30 inch opening at the top and tapers down to a 4 inch opening at the bottom. its made for crushing down rocks up to two feet thick 2 feet wide and up to 4 feet long. which drops the fragments onto a converbelt and run up to a screen. he was the guy that stood on the perch which has railings and he controled the feeder speed and over saw that the crusher ran smoothly. well he somehow fell into it and to say the least it would be a horribly painful death. there is an ongoing investigation as to what excactly happened. so not many details were released. i was at the garage welding on a loader mast when i saw all the emergency vehicles roll up in. i feared the worst and it wasnt long after that we got sent home and the people that were that were up there at the time of the accident needed to stay. http://www.wicz.com/news/video.asp?video=12-15-11quarry.flv&zone=News rest in peace wesley... i had not known him very long he had only worked there for 6 months. but he was an awesome person and and was always more than willing to lend a helping hand. only 22 years old. unbelievable. God Speed my friend...
 
That Sucks.............22 yrs. old. Hadn't even had a chance to start living yet. You hear stories like that and it makes you appreciate each and every day you have on this earth. Never know when it could end. RIP.
 
was an eye opener for all of us that were in lanesboro for sure. you just never know.... and the footage the news got was of the silver lake quarry. i know it by the antique equipment in the pics that was set up for decoration. the accident happened in lanesboro quarry which is a far bigger place and 40 miles away from silver lake. and im sure fox was not allowed anywhere near the entrance. when i had to leave it was bocked by personell you could could only leave not enter.
 
death so close to Christmas is horrible, my friends girlfriend was killed after getting t-boned by a drunk driver driving without his headlights, she was in critical condition and died in the hospital after they pulled her off life support because she had no brainwaves... she was only 17... her funeral was today also, RIP TAY!
 
f***** drunk drivers!! Cant even think about the pain the parents of this young girl are feeling. Horrible, horrible news. RIP

This is very sad news and hopefully with the passage of time his family can find peace. Too young to die that's for sure.

I hope that your company takes the necessary precautions to ensure this cannot happen again. It's just wrong to go to work and not make it home because of a preventable accident...RIP Wesley.
 
Very sorry to hear of both families losses. Prayers go out to both families and all of those who are missing someone that they were close with.

God bless each and every one, those still here and those passed. Let us all look beyond the gifts beneath the trees this year, and take the time to embrace those who are still with us.

that is horrible to hear. R.I.P. and the drunk driver of the vehicle. if they have any morals they learned their lesson the hardest way possible. and theyll have to live with that for the rest of thier life.

yes, because of this accident we are all getting issued fall supressant gear you must wear and tie off now if you are at a potentially dangerous spot or height according to new company policy. and the owner of the company mandadated that everybody have one therapy session payed for ofcouse to deal with his death and to make sure that everyone one that was there is still mentally ok with working at the company. the owner showed up at the funeral and paid his respects. Also the investigation is still pending on mshaw to make a final decision. the final result of wesleys condition wasnt pretty, so i wont go there. 2 employees quit as a result of the accident. the person that found wesley and one of wesleys long time friends.

we had 1 per crushing unit for repairs etc. but wasnt mandatory if you were on a cat walk, perch etc as long as there was railings. that policy has now changed.
 
Where I work if you are more than 6' off of the floor/ground you need to wear a fall restraint unit, and be tied to the rafters if possible...

Here is a neat tip that I learned from all of the safety videos at work, did you know that if you are using an extension ladder that it needs to be tied off to the building that you are trying to climb up. There was some sort of statistic that most ladder accidents occur from improper placement and and ladders not being tied off properly. So they tell us if you are going to scale an extension ladder(at home or work) make sure it is tied off to prevent the ladder from falling backwards with you on it.
 
all of our ladders are clipped into place onto round bars at the landings to the next walk.. that is a good tip tho. but if ya did it that way you still havta climb the ladder to tie it off.
 
Man I hate hearing stories like this.Two young people with their whole lives ahead of them. RIP both of you. So sorry for their families and friends.
 
I had a pretty close call myself last fall. Coming back up the 400 from the Toronto snowmobile show, about a kilometer south of town and the pickup truck i was in went off the road doing 120 KPH/70 MPH, rolled seven times, barely missed two rock cuts... Far from an industrial accident, but just the same, danger is always out there when you least expect it...Be safe everybody.
