Hey guys! I;m looking for a newer Yamaha sled but all I have heard about triples is they are no good. All my friends tell me that the middle cylinder over heats and goes bad. Any input would be nice I really don't know a lot about triples

I've heard the same thing from those that don't know thier @zz from page 8.

urban ledgend... maybe thirdy years ago with a fan cooled or free air but not liquids.

I can't even say a Doo, Poo or Cat are exceptions.

The 3 cylinder redhead 700 IMO is the best 2 stroke motor out there for reliability. Love that motor, and love my 97 SX, tore it apart at 7500 miles just as a precaution not because the motor went. Guess what, put new ring in pistons in it and I just keep on riding. The sled will be with me until the day I die.

them triples are flawless and bulletproof. You clean your carbs,do regular maintenance as anyone should and feed it good gas..they will go forever.Don't believe them cat/doo/poo guys..they are all jealous of Yamaha's reputation and keep buying sleds that fall apart..go figure.

ever wander why there are so many Cats and Doos for sale and only a hand few of Yamies.Yamies last and last.they hold their price on the used sled market.Jealousy runs deep in the competition...

Never heard of such a problem. If you're switching from a twin that you like to a triple, you might have a big surprise ahead of you.

Ive also never heard that, must be a doo/ cat guy telling you that BS. Ive never had an issue with either triple I owned. In fact Id have a really hard time buying anything but a triple now, they are so silky smooth and dead reliable Im not sure you could give me a twin.

11,000+ miles on my triple red head 600 and not a single problem. In that time I have only fouled (1) plug and still have 120psi compression across all three cylinders. So, who ever told you that a Yamaha triple is junk was pulling that info out of his lower backside orifice.

2000 SXr with 9,000 miles & never had a problem with the engine. Compression is about 120 across the board. I also do all my own maintenance.

They must not drive Yamaha's and are worried about you teaching them a lesson on one.

11,000 MILES COMP 135 . cyl never off . it has a peak head on it with a peeled gasket . leak down test is very good . send some snow so i can get 20 k on it :bling:

The only reason they would be more likely to fail is because they have an additional cylinder over a twin. If you don't clean your carbs, it's one more carb to have a plugged jet. If the engine fails as a result of poor maintenance it isn't the sled's fault. If you take care of it, you'll be able to pass the sled on to your children.

it also depends how you ride.If you ride trails at slow speeds or WOT on the Lakes and Rivers will make a difference.I ride my hard all the time and wot whenever I can..have never had a triple motor blow on me ever.If you ride hard you probably should change rings on a regular basis. If you ride like Granny then your motor will be good for 30 years...lol.
I am always off trail and looking for trouble..

I just had some Cat guy try to tell me how bad triples were... even pulled the, "I've got a friend who's a mechanic..." line out of the bag. I set him straight. Sorry, but of all the sledders out there, why are Cat riders the biggest douches?
