gauge help

Need some help guys. So this sx I'm fixing up came with a autometer electric water temp gauge. It wasn't hooked up so I tried to. Got the lights in it working fine. The temp wire I hooked to the red blue wire on temp sensor . Here is dilemma . Fired up and tend light is on all the time. Take gauge wire off light goes out. Checked ground its good. Jumpedground ground on temp sensor and still the same. Anyto thoughts. Gauge junk?

The yamaha temp sensor won't work with an aftermarket gauge, it will only operate the temp light when things get hot. You need a sensor that is made for that gauge.
