Matty When was the last time the carbs were cleaned? This may possibly be the reason why the cylinder went down. Or there may be something that is stuck in the carb(dirt, water, ??) and you have no fuel and or oil getting to that cylinder and that may be the reason for a stuck ring... If you look through the exhaust port and the top of the piston is gone then you have a fuel issue... GOOD LUCK

i cleaned the carbs about a month ago. then noticed a pilot was clogged again. so i drained old gas, put new filter, cleaned the carbs again. put about 200 miles on and then cleaned them again just to be sure no dirt from the lines had caught up in them. my garage currently has my fathers vmax 4 and his professional in it and has no room for mine for a week or so, and the temps here are in the -40's with wind chill for the next little bit so working on it outside isnt gonna be an option! may be able to bring it to a buddies garage so hopefully i will get it hauled apart and see whats going on in there. but I have to figure out the cause of the problem, or else its bound to happen again.
and thanks for the good luck! im gonna need it after all the trouble this srx has given me this season

Sorry to say but i think this blowup and other carnage is due to the operator, You said you had no topend? So you changed the plug and tried a full speed run, then you tried changing the belt and tried a topend run again? Didnt you hear the motor only running on two cylinders? I sure would know right away if my sled was running on two cylinders. All that full throttle running on a blown piston! Your damn lucky you didnt snap a rod and cut your motor in half. Sorry to be so negative but i see and hear aabout guys blowin this and that and it usually comes down to the operator, if ive got even a slight chance of a blown piston i surely dont keep riding it fullthrottle. JUST SAYING!!! BUT goodluck with your srx, AND dont blame the sled when it just MAY BE the operator!! GOD DARN OPERATORS!!! LOL LOL

it wasnt irregular because i had been fighting with my springs, helixes, shims, etc for a couple weeks trying to get it dialed in. some days 8600 rpm, some days 7800. it was working the same as it did when i had a pv pull through, so i was trying/hoping to rule that out. so i threw a new set of plugs and a new belt on it. it was still working fine bottom to mid range. nothing to do with the operator bud
