HP laptops are known for motherboard failures. All the DV series especially.

my HP desktop had the motherboard failure.Was going to cost me a little over $300 to replace it,I didn't.I just bought the Toshiba laptop instead and been good since.

Save the stuff you want on an external drive. Slap the restore disks in and bring her back to life!
Must be a Pentium 4 processor? Over-clock that beast (kinda like piping your sled).
And then Run it.
