Please help with any info, just to give you some background the seal has leaked since new the dealer installed 3 in the first 1000km and I have installed 2 with no success, my sled is a 2001 sxr600, I am an industrial mechanic with 29 years in numerous industries and I have installed numerous mechanical seals but this one has me stumped, I have been removing the engine because it is impossible to do it properly in the sled, I may know what the probblem is if I knew what the end play is on the pump shaft, too much end play would reduce the preload on the seal faces and cause it to leak, mine is around 20-30 thousands but I am not sure if this correct, seems like a lot to me, it could be corrected easily by removing the proper amount of material of the end of the shaft, if someone has any sgestions please help?

I always dreaded that leak.I don't no if this will help. There are several seals.

Just had my Viper fixed, the seal on the impeller bolt is real important as well as the mechanical shaft seal. Make sure it gets a new impeller seal.

I did mine twice, since I didn't replace the oil seal behind the mechanical seal it still leaked. You have to pull the c-clip out to get the oil seal out thats behind the mechanical seal. I also had to replace the bearing, since I damaged it removing the seals. No more leaks now..

the shaft is supposed to have that much end play in it. Don't worry about pre load it has plenty. Most likely the lip seal behind the mechanical is the problem. If that seal goes it will leak ou the vent hole in the bottom. You should pull the shaft and check the surface the seal rides on sometimes thats gone.

I don't think that the mech seal runs on the shaft .Isn't there a lip seal under the ceramic seal that seals the ceramic to the seal housing. The impeller bolt seal is important. After rebuilding my motor, when I put it back together the impeller bolt washer rubber had a gouge in it and it leaked.

Thanks I did not replace the seal on the bolt, this is my problem, so obvious I feel kinda stupid, the seal does not run on the shaft, let you know the out come :o|

and make sure that impellar bolt is tight.Mine loosened off and I had to replace the impellar, kinda screwed my day of riding.
