heres my story... i do not clean my own carbs as i am the least handy person on this planet... so every year i have a local mechanic winterize my sxr700 for $100.00.. heres my question.. i had sled done 2nd week of november.. it has now been alittle over six weeks since my carbs were cleaned.. living in upstate NY i never figured i would still be snowless right now, anyways, every two weeks i have started sled up and let it run for a good 10-15 minutes at a time until the coolant started flowing warm-get the engine nice and warm and the gas flowing..this was every two weeks on the mark.... how long can i safely do this without having this new ethanol gas plug up and varnish my bowls? i hate to pay again to have my carbs cleaned.... i only had like 3 gallons of 89 octane gas in sled.. last night i put 4 gallons of fresh premium gas in the sled and i did put some of that STARTRON in the tank last night..hoping that the startron may prevent the gas from going bad for the next couple weeks..... sled has started fine(5 pulls last night) and it idles perfect.... is six weeks enough time for that gas to go bad? should i be worried? and will that startron i put in last night help clean things out? I just hate to shell out another 100.00 bucks to have carbs cleaned again... and no, i cant do myself..LOL thanks much

Usually the first thing to plug in the carbs is the pilot jets. If it will still idle fine without any choke, and picks up the RPM's smoothly from idle without any choke, you should be okay.
Biggest thing is to just pay attention to how it runs once you can go ride...if there is any hesitation or bogging at any RPM don't ride it anymore, and then go through the carbs again.

Keep doing what you're doing and when you go to ride the first time fill it up to the top with premium and go! The biggest problem will come from letting it sit not being started. I have never had a problem doing it this way. This year I haven't even put gas in the tanks yet (it's 50 here right now)

ive never run regular gas in a sled and never will , supreme only minimum 91 octane

unless you are tuned for it with higher compression, regular gas will give you BETTER power. There is no difference in the additive packages in 99% of the blends out there, within the same mfg they use the exact same detergents for 87 as they do for the high octane stuff.

Premium gas in Canada is different, more detergents and also some with no ethanol. You can see that on their websites. Petro Canada and Shell are two of them. But you pay 10 cents or more per litre or 45 cents a gallon (CND) for it at least.

Kinda off topic but same subject. Its 42f and raining here. No snow in forcast here or really anywhere for that matter. I might be able to get to the u.p soon eith my buddies but the wife and kid have a "no beyond the bridge clause" LOL! They hate the long car rides sooooo, im thinking im going to refog the engines for storage for now. Been started and ready to run for over a month now without any rides on them. So dont want to let the cranks sit and rust. I DONT believe in the start and run every week theroy. More harm then good IMO. Man we need snow!

was thinking the same to about re fogging sleds..but we are due for snow tonight and tomorrow and strong winds to drift the snow..so I will be riding a little at least. The SRX just has to get out of the garage after about 3 months already..if not ..then the SXR600 will do for now..either way I am riding tomorrow..

Six weeks is not that long. I store multiple motorcycle for five months, all with full gas tanks. They are never started until they get removed from storage and they start right up and run fine. They are stored in an uninsulated garage and the gas is treated. OMC Fuel Stabilizer, Seafoam, Sta-Bil, whatever you want to use. Make sure to follow directions and don't overdo it.

Why re-fog guys. Just use klotz, it sticks to the bearings like tar!! Should be good for months.
If you start it up and run and spin the track a bit now and then. It will keep things lubed and gas flowing through the carbs. You should let it warm up though.

As for KLotz, I looked it up and the info on that premium 2 cycle oil says "Exceeds NMMA TC-W3®, JASO FD(#236), ISO-EGD and API TC low ash specifications for certified warranty compliance in Ski Doo, Polaris, Yamaha, and Arctic Cat Snowmobiles. Not alcohol compatible." Now ethanol is an alchol so to speak and with that claim I would not be using it personally. I don't run premium and you cannot be certain every gas stop does not have ethanol or gas line antifreeze in their tanks.

Sitting for weeks is nothing anyway and running it to warm it up keeps moisture at bay which is the biggest issue not the gas or carbs clogging up. They won't and if you're really going to wait a long long time before using it adding some 2 cycle oil to your gas tank will lub the fuel system and fog the engine with smoke due to richer running engine. It will all burn away and flush through after filling the gas tank and on the first ride.

I've been doing that for decades and never fogged and engine yet.
