Three Snowmobiles Break Through Ice on Lake Koshkonong
Emergency Crews respond to Lake Koshkonong in Rock County for a report of several snowmobiles that had broken through the ice.

ROCK COUNTY (WIFR) -- On 01-12-12 at 6:52 pm, Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton Township Police Department and personnel form Edgerton and Milton Fire/EMS responded Lake Koshkonong for a report of several snowmobiles that had broken through the ice. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Recreational Safety Team was immediately contacted and responded to assist in rescuing the subjects in the water. While responding to the area, emergency units were informed that the subjects were able to get out of the water, but were still stranded on the ice.
Upon arrival, Edgerton and Milton Fire personnel were able to get two of the three subjects to the shoreline and members of the Recreational Safety Team picked up the third subject and transported him to safety.
The initial investigation shows that a large group of snowmobiles were operating on the ice of Lake Koshkonong approximately 150 yards off the shoreline in the area of High Wood Beach. The three snowmobiles leading the pack broke through thin ice and entered the water. The remaining snowmobiles were able to turn around and safely get to the shoreline and call for assistance.
The operators of the three snowmobiles that broke through the ice were identified as Kody J. Hubred, 22 from Cambridge, Brett S. Nastala, 19 from Milton and Justin Hackett, 20 from Edgerton. Hubred and Nastala were transported to Edgerton Hospital where they were treated for exposure to the cold water. At 11:25 pm, Edgerton Hospital reported that Nastala was treated and released and Hubred was being admitted for observation. Hackett refused medical treatment and was released from the scene.
This incident remains under investigation, but alcohol was not a contributing factor.
