Need some help, Hyfax worn pretty unevenly!

I should preface this post by letting you know that this sled sat for at least the last 10 years, I knew I was going to tear up a set of hyfaxes fast while it cut the rust off the clips however I was completely shocked today when i was looking the sled over and saw just how badly my right side hyfax was worn.

Can you guys suggest any changes to the suspension, if i am interpreting it right it looks like there's too much pretty on the rear of the skid and/or the wheels aren't big enough and not supporting the weight of the track.

I hope you guys are able to help out with this. Need to get this fixed before thursday when I head up north!

That looks about right for normal wear to me. Yamaha's are known for eating hyfax. All mine wear uneven also just like that. A few fix's are oversize idler wheels, extra wheel kit ect.... New slides will wear for a bit then stop and last a while as long as your keeping fresh snow in the skid. If it just wore that way on the right check your track alignment and tension also.
 
My experience with my 2000 SRX is exactly the same as what Super1C has stated. When I put a new pair of hyfax on my stock SRX, they would wear down quickly, within 2 millimeters of the max. wear line, and not wear any further for over a thousand miles. Even if I ran the new hyfax in great snow, they would still wear. I eventually put oversize bogie wheels on the sled and now I can get several thousand miles on a pair of hyfax.
 
Well that's good to hear, but would you be surprised to hear that set of hyfaxes only has 65ish miles on it? I mean if that's normal wear I wont panic, but it just struck me as odd. I've tried to search for info on replacement bogie wheels but haven't found much useful info. Any decent kits available for the older Vmax?

A few years ago, just before a trip to Quebec, I thought it would be good to put a new set of hyfax on my SRX just to be safe. The hyfax which were on the sled were worn to within 2 mm of the wear line. OK, changed the hyfax to a new pair. Drove 10 hours north to my sledding destination and found perfect conditions, trails groomed flat, plenty of snow, plenty of loose snow to lube the hyfax. OK, off I go with a set of riding destinations. As I am riding for the first few miles, the sled feels like I am hitting the brakes now and then and I smell the hyfax melting. Needless to say I was very concerned that my ride was over and I would be heading home. I decided to ride back to the hotel, hitting as much powder as possible. When I got back to the hotel, less than 80 miles round trip, the sluggish feeling of the sled was gone. I decided to continue riding and it was fine. 4 days and 1000 miles later, the hyfax wear was no more than after the first 80 miles. I was not comfortable with the hyfax wearing so close to the wear limit line that I added a set of bofie wheels which are 6 mm larger in diameter. With those wheels the hyfax hardly wear at all except at the front curve on the rail. I added a pair of marginal snow wheels at the curve to reduce the wear.

Jim- where did you source the oversized wheels from and how hard were they to install. I was just reading about the minimal snow kit. Looks like I've got some modding to do ;)

The hyfax strips on my mountain max look like that right now too, they have that rollercoaster shape to them. Their getting replaced by graphite strips this time around and i'll see how they wear. You can check your wear by trying to put a 10mm wrench over the strip. You actually have a ways to go beyond the wear line to get to 10mm minimum thickness.
 
I bought Kimpex bogie wheels, 5 3/8" OD. I got them in Blue ( all sorts of colors available. These wheels are available from many on-line suppliers. The stock wheels are 5 1/4" OD.

The marginal snow wheel set was purchased from Bender but there are a few places who sell them.
