Anybody notice this or is it just me. We use to hit a lake and there would be at least a couple sleds waiting for some action. Nowadays nothing, just spent 4 days over New Years weekend up at Lake Gogebic in the U.P. and nobody wanted to play. Have been going to Lake Winnebago for the last 4 years and only a couple races in that time. Anybody else notice this or is it me? Maybe nobody dials in their sleds anymore, maybe these new sleds just don't have the top end, I don't get it. Sorry, I'm just venting. Still waiting for more snow.

Its all over all the other forumns.....Beware of the srx's especially on the lakes! Pick yourself up a sx or vmax hood for your srx and they will quit running away.
Well its not that they're running away, there's just nobody racing. Not like it was when I first bought this sled in 97.
in my area on laural lake that is where we do most of our drags. and pretty much same circumstance usually someone out there that wants to give it a go. but as of now the ice is still too sketchy. been too warm this year never in my life have i seen the lake not frozen enough as of now but. coulpe of ice fishers just fell thru last weekend one was saved one wasnt so lucky. just hasnt been cold enough this year yet.

we still got a few spots here in maine where guys hang out and race. talk trash all week and run em on the weekends. good times
That's what I'm talking about, friendly trash talking, win or lose, I don't care. Haven't seen any of that around here for years.

Here is my take on it. The New rider forward sleds are not designed for drag or Lake racing. The SRX was, plain and simple, not many left. 10 years old. The long travel suspension is great on the bumps but slow on the ice. Plus, when was the last time you still saw a 10 year or older Cat, Polaris or Doo??? I rarely see any Thunder cats, Machs or original Indy's. But I sure do still see alot of strong running Yamaha's. Al

It is slimming down. The hot sports in wi for drag racing are St germain,wi.Christmas between New years. Its not like it use to be though.A big lake race weekend is during the St Germain radar runs they are the first weekend in Febuary.Minoqua,wi has a little action during cruiser fest which is the 2nd weekend in Febuary. The biggest weekend is always the weenie roast the first weekend in march in cable,wi.There are 100's of guys there.Sometimes its 30-35 sleds wide drag racing from stock 500's to 550hp sleds on the snow.Do a youtube search under weenie roast.

Most sat. on west bay of Litte St. you can find some good races. Now most sleds are Cat turbos but still some fun. The first weakend of feb. Fri - Sun we will be having our "radar run" and drag race. We have made some good upgrades this year. its a family friendly event and there is always some big iron and fast sleds. If your in the area come on by and run or just see whats going on. For more info see Bskiturbo's post in thr race forum.

I BEEN INVOLVED IN LAKE RACING HERE IN NY SENSE THE LATE SEVENTIES. PRETTY MUCH SEEN IT ALL, BUT IT HAS CHANGED HERE IN NY FOR AFEW REASONS.
1. WEATHER/ SAFE ICE CONCERN OR TO MUCH SNOW
2. SOMEBODY TO KEEP TRACK MAINTAINED. (for ice drags)
3. INSURANCE, KNOW ONE WANTS LIABILITY
4. IF ITS OUTLAW SNOW DRAGS/ COPS, SPEED LIMITS. etc 3:16

I think Tony has most of it down.
I'll add (around here anyway) the fact that almost all the lake front bars, marinas, businesses of any sort for that matter have been pushed out by DNR regulation and bought up by developers to split, sell and build mansions for those with deep pockets. We are an hour or so from downtown Chicago and have many lakes around. Locals can't compete and the big $ boys from the city don't want us locals messin with their weekend recreation time or makin any noise.
There are plenty of public parks on all the lakes but trying to get permission to to anything like a radar run would be impossible. Water skiing and yacht clubs get anything they want but snowmobilers are the devil. The DNR likes our money but that's about it.
I'm sure similar things are happening all over.
It really rips me because snowmobiles do less damage to the environment than any other form of motor sport yet we are viewed as the worst. A bike/walking path does more damage than a snowmobile trail.
