All the research I've seen on this site has been leaning towards using regular gas in my stock sled vs. premium. Is this the general cencensus out there?
My question is, after looking through my sled's owners manual, Yamaha says to use 88 Octane or higher. Around my neck of the woods, regular fuel is only 87.
Should I start using mid-grade or premium from now on?
Just wondering what everyone else is doing.
Thoughts???

if you have ethanol in your reg. gas..I would go up on grade.Midgrade probably isn't used much and probably sits in the station tanks longer.I run Premium in my sleds..costs me more..but I am not taking chances using fuel that may contain ethanol..period.

Prior to my head gasket mod I usually ran the mid grade (89). After H/G mod (1 layer removed), 91 made her purr well w/ no detonation.

Well, I usually try to run ethonal free 87 octane, but now that I've read I should be running 88 or higher I don't know what to do. Everything else in my area all has ethonal in it. It's unavoidable. Even the e-free stuff is really hard to come accross. I just happen to have one station within 15 miles (not on a trail) that I try to hit with a couple of 5 gallon cans to top off my sled before I ride. So if I move up to mid-grade or premium, it all has ethonal in it...

All gas in my area has ethanol. If it was me, i'd move up to mid grade regardless.

Does 91 octane generally not have ethanol?

I think it depends on your area. The stuff I see around the Twin Cities metro where I live seems to have ethanol in all the grades. When I go up around Brainerd,MN (up north) they tend not to have it. It's amazing how much better mileage I get with my SUV when I come home from UP NORTH with the NON-ethanol fuel in my rig.
