I mostly cured my idle hang by going to 50 pilots on my 00 srx. After coming down it will pause at 2500 for a few seconds before settling down to 1800 rpm.
I read somewhere that the hang is not always due to a lean condition. The pipes on an srx are extremely efficient at a few rpm ranges, one being 2500. The charge from the pipe causes the hang. Adding additional fuel to the idle circuit helps cool the pipes and bring the efficiency down, hence dropping the RPM. It is a fine line though between just enough and too much fuel. 50 pilots and 1 7/8 turns on the screws did the trick for me.

of course a warm engine will idle down if u add 2 much gas. happen everytime. maybe not as much if it is leaking in air it is not supposed to. i realize these being 2 strokes act differently. not trying to sound like a know it all. i state my thoughts bluntly. way it is.

you want to check simply start up sled and ride it, then stop when it revs up a bit simply lightly start to lift the choke lever and it will return instantly to idle speed. that means its lean, thats all
this is your best answer. go up a pilot size if you're already over 2 turns on your fuel screws. no need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

snopax- interesting info. obviously different situation with stock viper, but may be a characteristic of these engines and support systems. i thought of trying some 47.5 pilots. maybe i will do that. i still think there should be a seperate high idle for warmup. i would have fixed t.o.r.s. if i thought it was good for anything.

it may actually be a combination of pilot circuit being a little lean and having to have base idle a little high to compensate for no sperate high idle setting.

My viper does not hang...did you check the main seals they are made of rubber and go bad . It sounds like you know everything so I'm sure you have and know how to . Just replaced my seals again . Did it at 4000 miles and now at 8000miles cheap insurance seals don't cost much and easy to do .

what snowmobile have you owned before that has a 2 differnt idle settings?

I guess if I read this right, you're insinuating that ALL of these motors have this problem because there isn't two idle adjustments??? Or because of the TORS system?
My piped and cold air intake Viper has zero idle hang issues. My guess is you still have some pilot circuit blockage that your not seeing somewhere, or air is leaking into the system somewhere. Who knows, after you have removed TORS switch and whatever else...
We get that you can't figure out how to make the TORS work properly, so are angry about it and think the whole system is junk...lord knows we've heard that enough times from you. If you want to have to hit the kill switch if a throttle sticking situation occurs, then that's your business. None of the other sleds have this system, and most of the people I see out riding don't bother to wear their tether.
I find it a fairly simple system that will govern the rpms back if a throttle cable stuck situation occurs, and have never had a problem with it in my 28 years of snowmobiling on Yammies...
You're on here asking for help, but rather than looking at the suggestions optimistically and checking them, you just debate and talk about what junk the sled design is...fine, then get rid of it. If you really want to fix the problem, then your best bet is to follow the steps that MrViper offers...even if you've already checked it before.
I, for one, will not be commenting anymore.

why not have a high idle setting? i have thought about the crank seals with 900 miles should not be necessary. if it needs seals then the seals are junk

one thing you need to consider with only 900 miles in 10 years is this thing sat aaalooot. one of the worst thing for seals
bluemonster1
LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
they could be dried or cracked then..spray with starter fluid around the seal and see if motor changes rpm/check the rubber boots to the air box also..could be cracks there as well sucking air..

Well thats why you would replace them because they are junk . Miles dont mean anything if they never been replaced then they are old and will dry rot or dry out and get hard and crack . Seen it before that some carb clean and spray by them you will know then . Like I said my viper has never had a idle hang but I also do maintenance to it and also preventive maintenance but that's just me . O one more thing the tors work fine too yamaha been using them for years . Hope you get this fig. Out the viper is a nice sled my wife loves her viper good luck with it

hey 09nytro thanx for good wishes. ya i know you cant just go by miles. i suppose 10 yrs. is a long time. have to admit should have done them when i bought it, had engine out . wanted to clean it up and check it out real good. my bad if they need new ones. hated to kick a sleeping dog. well i have beaten this issue to death i must admit. glad your sled rocks now bluemonster. remember skis must be on the ground to turn.

yup staggs u are correct. i thought about that and should have just done them anyways irregardless. very well could be the issue. should have been more appreciative of the advice instead of being argumentative. i will do better for now on.
