2004 Viper. Bogs or chokes periodicly when pressing throttle

I had a 2002 Viper but upgraded to a 2004 and rode it for the 1st time this past Saturday. Now and then, it doesn't actually stal,l but when I press the throttle after coming to a stop it doesn't want to go. I let the idle go all the way down to 1500 and it is fine again but it kept happening throughout the day. I changed plugs to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else. My plan is to clean the carbs and jets but for some reason I feel like it could be the power valves. By the way what is the best thing to clean the valves with
 
u may want 2 eliminate at some point. not really good for anything but problems. everyone should practice hitting the kill switch at as quickly as possible. u should do it a few times before every ride(sled not running). it should become 2nd nature. this is what will potentially save your a$$.

As others mentioned, check the throttle cable and you'd be wise to pull and clean the carbs if you haven't done so. Others may have a different opinion, but when the cable is adjusted properly TORS isn't an issue (well, very few from what I've read) and IMO well worth keeping intact.

I use a fresh razor blade to clean the powervalves. Buy a pack of 100 and you'll find all kinds of uses for them.
 
I agree with snomofo, I never thought carb adjustment would affect TORS that much, but last year I couldnt go WOT without having to come to a complete stop afterwards. I cleaned my carbs, I didnt touch anything else, now this year it runs perfect TORS never kicked in.

I like having it as a precaution, sometimes you cant get your hand on the kill switch fast enough, Ive seen too many sleds flying into rocks from stuck throttles. (mostly all polaris but still...)
 
Most likely the cable needs adjusted. Several times after cleaning my carbs the same thing would happen to me. Pin the throttle for s few seconds, then try to go again and the TORS kicked in. Let it idle down, and it would go again, until I went WOT again.

Adjusted cable and it's fine.
 
I have seen sleds that have been totaled because the owner disabled the TORS. Disconnect the TORS and what are you going to do when the throttle sticks wide open? Sometimes the kill switch wont work when its wide open. Might not even be able to get to it if you are wide open on a bumpy trail. But hey the worst that could happen is it hits someone else out there doing 100 mph and kills them.
 
If ever I had an issue with TORS that I had to permanently disable it I would invest in a tether. Granted its a slim chance of ever needing it but I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
