Just wanted to get some opinions: My good riding buddy that has the '98 SRX600 w/ almost 15,000 miles happened to run across a really clean 2000 SRX last spring. It only had 1000 actual miles and looks showroom clean. He set it all up suspension wise, turned the track around and picked it and chose to run Heavy Hitters like he is using in his old SRX600 (which really woke that sled up). He is getting HIS first miles on it, says it pulls hard up to 90-95 but then hits a wall. It slowly creeps up to 110 on a long pull. What made him aware that somethings not right was riding with another friend across the Chippewa Flowage in Wisconsin by his cabin. The other fella has a 800 carbed Renegade 136". They punched them in midrange at around 50 and the SRX surges ahead about 7 lengths until just past 90....hits a wall and the gade reels him in and goes by after about 1/4 mile or so. The gade is bone stock. He said his 600 hangs with the gade better all the way through but doesn't pull him of course in the midrange like the 700 does.
Two things: I run Heavy Hitters in my Viper as does my old man. I bought the first set from Jeff Simons and the second set right from Lonn at Thunder Products. Both guys told me that you cannot run the red secondary spring with the HH's. My dad and I use a silver as does this guy in his old SRX600. He just didn't have one at the time so he used the stock one.
Secondly: He said the original owner ran something strange for injection oil so he let it run low and is now pushing Yamahlube through, but it hasn't come through yet judging by the smell. I asked him if he pulled the powervalves. He said not yet. My theory is he has a stuck one or a pulled through cable. My Viper did this when I stuck a valve w/ the Amsoil Interceptor....would hit a wall a 90 and creep slowly to 100 and that was it. After I cleaned them up mine would surge right up to 110 or more on the speedo with no lull spots.
Just thought I would throw this out there. I have never owned an SRX. Thought maybe someone else might have something to add.

You forgot one important thing................what is the sled pulling for revs.A stuck power valve will kill top end just like the wrong spring would.Sounds like you are on the right track there tho.

SOUNDS LIKE HE MIGHT HAVE POWER VALVE ISSUE OR A PRIMARY SPRING/ PRIMARY/ SECONDARY BINDING ISSUE. TELL HIM TO DO THE OLD SHARPIE TRICK ON HIS PRIMARY. 3:16 (yammie tony)

He claims the rpms are close to where it should be around 8400ish. I am sure he will try the sharpie this weekend. As for the PV mine ran good in the R's when I had a stuck valve. I was messing with all sorts of clutching until I found the crudded up valve. I am leaning more towards this right now.

USE AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR IN THAT SLED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

That's what I ran when my valves stuck. After that I just went back to the Yamalube being the Amsoil had jumped up to around $40 a gallon and I can still get the Yamalube for around $28 a gallon. I figured why pay more if I still stick valves. I haven't stuck one yet on the stock oil....but yes, it pays to just pull them and clean them once and awhile.

I ran a red spring with my srx last year with heavy hitters. 1000ft radar on snow was faster with a red than a green. 1000ft ice was faster with the green. heavy hitters, www primary, bender 50/40. the silver works better when using with the HH 150/300 primary spring

As I mentioned I am leaning more towards the powervalves and less with the red spring. He claims his R's look good all the way thru......which I believe because as I mentioned so did mine that time. He runs the HH's on the older SRX600 too so he has a pretty good feel for them. I think he put them on the 600 when it had about 10,000 miles. That machine has almost 15,000 miles on it now. He's a good wrench and I think he might figure it out this weekend. I'll try and update this on Monday when I see him. I was going to go up there to his cabin this weekend but my wife's dad is in the hospital with heart problems. Gotta stay close to home.

Just to update this post of mine. He borrowed a relatives servo service pack to engage the powervalve servo motor and he did need to adjust all three cables. They were not opening all the way. Secondly he did go to the silver secondary spring. This weekend for the heck of it he took it over to Lake Namakagon in Wisconsin where there was a sanctioned speed run going on. His relative (that owns the servo pack) runs the speed run circuit and won his class in 1000' for the day at 109.32 mph on his 2002 SRX. My buddy just ran his 2000 SRX thru the traps for fun (not entered) and ran 109.22 mph. The winning sled of his relatives is setup for speed runs with a thin profile race track, ice picks, lowered suspension, machined clutches and about a total of 60 lbs less sled and driver (lots of sled lightening). My buddies just has 144 gold diggers in the stock track spun backwards and has the Heavy Hitters in it with machined clutches. Other than that it is bone stock.

I guess what shocked me is how my buddies 2000 is running right with the setup 2002. It makes you wonder what the 2000 would do if it had all the chassis lightening, speed track, ice picks and lighter pilot. It looks like he is getting the sled figured out now.

Well here are the results. The fun run was just for anyone. They listed him as a 1998 though. That was a misprint. It's a 2000 SRX.

I noticed in the pro class a 2003 F7 ran over 111 but it was a lady driver. (light!) Funny she didn't jump up a class to the triple pipe sleds unless it's against the rules.
