I just bought a 2000 sxr700 for my son and the gauge will not move off of full. we drove it today and it took 6 gallons to refill it and the gauge never moved off full.all the wires look to be plugged in. the sled has 2200 miles on it and it looks just like it did when the owner bought it new. any help would be great thanks .

My mm will say full till about 6 gals r gone then she drops like a rock. If u look the float does not come all the way up to the filler neck. Its kinda funky but u should be getting atleast 12 mpg on the trail. I dont trust mine n just do quick math. But when it says ur on E, u got about 1 gallon left. Good luck n ride safe, my buddies 99 srx is same as mine....

Can you see the float in the tank and is the rod able to move up and down in the tank freely? The whole fuel sending unit is actually a really easy design. All it is, is a variable resistor. Could be the little tab inside of the actual sending unit is not touching or is not moving or something.

I will go out and take a look inside the tank.I will also recheck all the plg ins too.
I bet your fuel sending unit is laying at the bottom of the tank. That is where mine is. It is easily fished out with a coat hanger. I repaired mine with JB weld but it didn't last long. I am now buying a New one.

Did you find a fix to this? I'm having the same issue and have checked wires which see fine. The sending unit seems to be there, but I don't know exactly what it is.

Ok, nothing is in the sled, and I think I checked all the wiring. Anyone know where it normally rubs thru? I have the air box off, and didn't see anything at all.
