I did a search and didn't find anything. Looking for the vin no. on my '99 MM 700. I thought it should be on a tag or stamped in the steel where my right foot sits, but there's nothing there - no tag, no stamp. However, on the tail end behind the seat on the decal full of warnings, I found this: 8CY-77762-00. It didn't say it was the VIN, but kind of sounds like one. Would that be it?

Should be on right side tunnel not 100 % on that but check to c if that tag matches the engine numbers engine matches sled vin
 
unless your tunnel's been changed, should be about 4" down from where the tank meets the seat on the tunnel. mtn maxes from that era start with 8CP on the 700's.

that number you found was probably for the sticker. none of the vins would start with that high of number (777)and 8CY would pre-fix a venture 500.
 
The registration paperwork starts with 8CP, but I need to find something to match that on sled. I know where I'm sure supposed to look - on right side of tunnel, but no tag and its not stamped. Its quite obvious on wife's MXZ 670 yet nothing on MM. Courthouse is requiring inspection so I need to come up with something.
 
sounds like the tunnels been changed. right side sitting, correct?

when a tunnel has been changed with a factory replacment, there are no numbers, its the responsibilty of the owner to re-register.

you could tell them its an aftermarket tunnel(it may be) like a fabcraft or echolm, and see where that gets you. since your in montana, call fabcraft and see how they handle the situations on tunnel changes.

on the engine block, just behind the recoil, you will find the engine number. theres a flat spot there and the number is stamped i think on the exhaust side. sometimes they match, sometimes they are a few digits off. check and see.
 
That's what I started thinking last night - it probably has an aftermarket tunnel. Fabcraft is here in MT - actually, about 50 miles south of me, so I emailed them this morning on their thoughts of what to do. What I'm thinking is that I need to use my steel stamps and stamp the vin no. back on the right side of the tunnel, assuming it's not hardened.

I'll also look for no. on engine block - I did quick look-over with flashlight in the dark this morning and didn't see anything - I'm guessing you're talking on the right side of the engine as well?
 
I am not sure how it works in MT but in UT you can get a new VIN# issued to your sled. I have put on alot of aftermarket tunnels.
Option 1:
If the stock tunnel was garbage I cut the VIN# out of the tunnel and riveted it on to the new one. Done
Option 2: What I would do in your case)
Go to the courthouse they will give you a foil tag with a number on it. You fill out a form about what make and model it is based off of. For them to put a value to it (For Utah propertiy taxes). Then take the foil tag and attach it (UT wants it riveted on so it will not fall off). Then ether take it to the courthouse or have a sheriff come verify it is on and attached. then you can register it under the new VIN#. This is the same way you register a home made trailer the requires registration.

The vin is on tunnel. Very faint and I could only see it with the help of a flashlight and the sun shining brightly on it. Nothing on engine but I should be good to go. Thanks for all the input.
