My '92 exciter mountain build

hello everyone i'm new to to this forum i want to introduce myself and show you my old machine. my name is keven i'm 19 years old i live in quebec, canada where we got good amounts of snow in general... this summer i bought a 92 exciter and planning my first skid swap. i paid 600$ for the sled itself. all stock and a freshly rebuilt motor. the suspension was kind of wrecked, everything was loose so it was perfect for me. here is the exciter the day i bought it :

next i took off all the suspension and began to extend the tunnel. i took a junked yamaha xl-v to extend my tunnel. a picture worth a thousand words so here it is :

moving the rear heat exchanger in my tunnel extension and adding a bumper. note : the suspension isn't fitted at this point and the brake light is not my actual one it was just a test

suspension installed with custom made drop brackets. i needed yamaha bravo 7 tooth track sprockets to clear the 1,75" paddles

next i made a bracket to hold a truck spotlight in front of my riser block. and i cutted the stock seat and my nice mother covered it with brand new leather :)

Looks good man!! T'as fait du beau travail! Ons devraient s'rencontrer quel que temp!

Really nice work, we should try and get together one weekend and go for a rip. Let me know if you need help with anything.

pretty neat, how does it go with the 7 tooth sprockets?did you regear it to,you didnt like the fairing?always good to see a few more exciters,i to once thought i was the only idiot with one but ha,another cool one out there!

@ prankster : your exciter is realy hot man ! does the flatslides carbs was a good upgrade? i think putting a set on mine... i also look for an aftermaket pipe but they are kind of rare....

@dsc577 : the 7 tooth sprocket were only to clear the paddles but it changed a lot my gearing... in my chaincase i'm geared 19-33 and the sled runs perfect like that ! i have awesome acceleration but little less top speed. top speed is about 110 km/h but thats the way i like my sled as i use it for "ditch banging" lol

7-Tooth driver with 2,52" pitch and 19/33 gearing...
...It's similar to having a 15/33 gearing
This gives us a ~2.2 in gear ratio.

Thanx:) I put alot of time and money in it for 2 years now and i´m still not done.... I´m what they call an exciter entusiast:) I don´t want any other sled so i keep modifying as long as i got ideas:)

The flatslides was a improvement compared to stock, had a bit trouble with the jetting but now it works perfect. Very quick throttle response with those carbs, really recommend it:) U can find them cheap on ebay.

my next mod will be a track with higher lugs, same as u probably.... and a hydraulicbrake and of course a custom seat:)

thanks i didn't really know how to calculate the gearing with new track sprockets, i just installed them and figured the sled rides just like i wished lol. i were lucky on this one.
:dunno:

prankster, can you tell me more about hydrolic brakes conversion i never heard of that... if i can get rid of the prehistoric wire brake system i would be very happy. and does anyone ever heard of a way to add reverse on these sleds ? maybe venture or v-max chaincase ??

yeah glad you brought it up:) reverse... that´s something i been thinking about for a while. I tried to look for some others who done that before but i came up empty handed. It should work if u use the reverse from a -94-96 vmax but i´m not sure... i think that it might be 5mm difference in the height of the chaincase (in that case u have to cut it and weld it back together. I´m planning to make a conversion like that myself but i have some other priorities first:) The hydraulic brake conversion is much easier, take a complete kit from a newer vmax 700or srx. Buy a longer hose and make a bracket that fit your new caliper. Check the exciter 101 thread it´s some grat info in there... please contribute in that thread with everything u find that can be used for others:)

you can add reverse by getting as reverse chaincase from a venture of the same vintage. i added reverse to a 93 exciter sx i had and it was a bolt in. i have a extra reverse chaincase assembly if someone is interested shoot me a pm

I added reverse to a (1993) Exciter-II I had and it was a bolt in.
:!:
Acording to other information this is not a direct swap !!!
Two things are different according to reports.

* The C-C measurement between the axles in the chaincases differ by 5 mm.
* The mounting holes in the chaincase does not match the mounting holes in the chassis.

Yeah lasse that is what i found out too, check snowmobile (sweden) thread, i lifted it again a while back, talked to some guys who planned to do this conversion before. It was two ways to make it fit..either cut and weld the chaincase 5mm or modify the shaft and bearing holder. The mounting holes wouldn´t fit either. Asked him if the chaincase from a vx 600 would fit better but it was even more differences with that one according to him.

more info from those of you who pulled this off on an exciter would be much appreciated:)
