Was on a ride around the town today and I heard some bad noises coming from my clutch side. Noticed my speedo stopped working, Looked into it some more the cable broke up by the Speedo unit. I pulled the cable out of its sheathing and took the cable out so its out of the way. After I took the cable out its not making the bad noises anymore but I hear a squeaking noise coming from the speedo gear under the secondary. When I'm at low speeds. I'm suppose to go out with some buddies tomorrow just got about 20 inches of snow in the last 4 days. How hard is it to replace that bearing and about how long? Or can I just ride it for a day and fix it later. Thanks
It should only take about 15 minutes to replace the bearing. You don't want to ride it if the bearing is going out, you risk more damage. I would go look at it now and save a problem tomorrow.

X2 that sucker goes you will regret not fixing it for sure.
Very easy 3 or 6 bolts if i recall. New speedo cable can be added but usually its not that cable its the piece that feeds it from the housing adapter.

I have a bearing left over when I did jackshaft bearings two years ago the clutch side. Is this bearing the same bearing? Can I replace this bearing from removing the bolts inside the engine area?

no the brg is not the same . jackshaft brg is a as205 it has a radiused outside race, the drive shaft brg is a ub205 it has a square cut outer race. to replace you just remove the three nuts holding the speedo drive on below the secondary and loosen the two set screws that secure the inner race to the axle( these are inside the tunnel ) and can be a pain some times. also helps to take all tension off the track first.xlimited said:I have a bearing left over when I did jackshaft bearings two years ago the clutch side. Well you can't get the Bearing with the square cut outer race at any local auto parts stores around here only the radius one. My bearing that I removed if you can call it a bearing all the balls were gone and almost eat through the outer race. Replaced it put 50 miles on today. Thanks for your help.
When you replace the bearing drill a hole in the bearing cap and install a grease zerk. After you have things back together pump the bearing cap full of grease. This will keep out all the water that gets in there and rusts up the bearing during summer storage.
