2000 sx700r... i had a faulty oil sensor last season which was my first with this sled.. i had the sensor replaced this season.. was finally able to go for my first ride yesterday... oil is getting pretty low, its about 1 inch below the 1 qt mark(still enough oil in there to be safe, about 2-3 inches left in oil jug) when should the light come on? i want to make sure that the sensor is good.. i purchased the sensor brand new from yammy dealer months ago....

Prolly to late now but you could have plugged it in prior to install and move float until light came on. Not sure if you can fish a wire down in there to push it down or lean sled hard side to side. The oil will run away from float letting it sink. At that point light should come on, if not I would think you may have another problem.

just take a siphon hose and suck the oil out slowly. When it finally gets low enough the light should come on.I tested mine like that years back just to see if the light would come on.Should still have around 1 litre of oil left when light kicks on..

Take a quart of oil with you and run the tank down - then you will find out.

actually that is a good suggestion.I hope his light is working only, because if he assumes it will come on when oil goes down, and it doesn't come on and he keeps riding..then KABOOM! I like to try it in a controlled environment first.PZ 1 said:Take a quart of oil with you and run the tank down - then you will find out.

I had the oil light come on when riding the other day actually and there is just enough oil left to get give you time to see the light come on and shut off the engine.

I think that your sensor may be faulty. You should be able to run about a quarter to half tank of gas(a 1/4 for sure) when the light comes on.devinzz1 said:i meant if you didnt notice it for a couple minuets cause when i stopped it was just running on what was left in the lines

last night
was riding last night, when i looked at the oil tank there was about 1.5-2.0 inches of oil left in the tank.....light still didnt come on, i got alittle scared so i put oil in... i put in a whole quart and even with adding a full quart it only put me to the one quart line, I could have added two full quarts to fill it up to the top if i wanted to...and i think the sx700r holds about 3.2 quarts of oil.... so if my calculations are correct i had about 1.2 quarts left in the tank,,,, wonder when the light should come on..
