viper skid and track under a mountain max?

Hi all, I have read that the viper skid will work in a mountian max. What I'm wondering is if you have to (or should) swap over the hangers and other mounting hardware?

Also, aside from the shocks is there really any good reason to use the viper skid? Only reason I want to put it under my mountian max is so I can use the viper's 144 camoplast and ditch the yokohama. I think I read somewhere you can buy bigger real wheels that will fit a 144 on the MM skid.

Something else, is the driver the same between the two with the exception of the speedometer gear pickup? In other words can I just leave my driver alone on the mountain max and use it with the viper 144 camoplast?

if your looking at the 03-04 viper 144 skids, its a direct bolt in.

the 05 mtn viper pro mtn skid would be more desirable in my opinion, but i havent crossed one over yet to know the mounting points.

the 03-04 are near identical to 2000 and up mm skids, exept for rail length. no real gain between the two except length.

drivers are the same, you wont have to change your driveshaft, or anything else. i would suggest the addition of anti ratchet drivers while the shaft is out for the track change.

I just did this to my neighbours mountain max and it works.
 
Still kinda clueless, but what is a antiratchet driver? I've heard of them before, but still have yet to figure out what they do and why they are better then whatever is in there now.

So just to confirm, if I use the oem viper complast challenger 144 on the mountain max (with viper skid) the front driver will work with this track? Reason as I have a guy who really wants the viper one, but I don't want to give it away if I'll need it.

antiratchet, extrovert, convolutes, whatever you want to call them, they have lugs that use the windows of the track as well as the lugs on the track to drive the track. you can run your track a bit looser(frees up hp by reducing rolling resistance)

you dont need the viper shaft. you could use it but you wont have a speedo. keep your mtn max driveshaft, all else will fit.

budget around $185 +/- if you go with antiratchet drivers, not including press time, if you dont have a press.
 
There is an 03 mtn viper skid on eBay right now for $119. It would cost me more in freight than the skid to get it to me on the easy coast. I would rather have mtn performance 144" rails, their 5lb lighter and they look :bling:
 
Another Option

I did a swap on my '05 Viper to a Factory Nytro skid and track, had to trim the track a tad to keep it from rubbing the bulkhead and have some new drivers pressed on, but it was a direct bolt in. I also replaced the springs with Apex springs to eliminate the squat. It rides beautifully and handles the extra track with zero problems. A set of triple pipes would make it the perfect sled. Another option to consider.

but you have a 2005 which is the pro-mountain, similar to the nytro. the 2005+ skids will not be a direct bolt in for his mounain max.

TO OP, your best option would be to locate a newer skid and relocate that. the cheapest/easiest way would be rail extentions. 2000+ mm skids only. 97-99 skids use the short track W arm and dont work very well long tracked.

the newer axle would be worth swapping if you have a pre-update drive shaft. either way anti-ratchets are well worth the money.
 
sorry to butt in, but i have the pro-mountin suspension i think so, its a 144 suspension took out of a rs venture, i had it on my mountain max i built before, but the track use to jump with anti rachets, the suspension wasnt back far enough, i took the measurements from the rs venture chassis, but i guess it didnt work good where i got 8 tooth anti rachets and the rs venture had 9 tooth sprockets, that was a 141 challenger track, and now i got a 144 16 wide 2 inch challenger track, i got the stove bolts for the chain case so it dont rub, and im wondering where the suspension would bolt up to, anyone have any measurements i could go by?
 
unless that 144 skid was from a mtn specific 4 stroke, the 144 pro-mountain and the 144 pro comfort skids are different, and i believe utilize different mounting points(the rs venture did not have the mountain skid).

your only splitting about an inch between the 8t and the 9t and most times the adjusters will make up this difference, although not always. yours could be the exception. running the venture pro-comfort skid, you would need those dimensions and add 1/2"-5/8" to your set back measures.
